It's an okay institution, with some great professors. If you have the opportunity to transfer to another UT system school in a bigger city take it!
I chose this University because my maternal grandmother received her Bachelor's degree here and my great aunt received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees here. I wanted them both to see me graduate following their footsteps and continuing the 5th generation of women that have walked that stage. The University is affordable, professors are great, staff is nice and helpful. Financial aid and student accounts offices are great but can be a bit difficult to reach and just as difficult to work with.
It's a good university for the price. It lacks in a few ways. Communication is honestly terrible at the school, it's very very hard to make sure the information you have about something (in my case, technical details related to paying tuition and loans) is actually correct. The student life can also be pretty boring, but the events that do happen are fun; its just not that big of a student body on campus it seems. If you're a social sciences or any liberal arts adjacent major, the classes are very limited in scope and are largely online. Sociology, for example, is essentially an online only major save for two classes a semester.
There are certainly upsides though, cost for one. The professors are honestly amazing and so obviously care deeply for the students, they are the reason I am certain of wanting to get higher education. Another upside is the library, I love it. As an undergrad you can check out 25 books at once and I find it pretty rare to not be able to get a book you want.
