University of North Carolina - Wilmington Reviews
I am a Freshman at UNC Wilmington, and I am so happy I chose this school. The first two months were an adjustment, and my parents kept encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and introduce myself to the groups of students I would like to affiliate with. It took a while but once I did I knew I found my home! I really have a connection with Latinos and when I first arrived I did not think there were any here! I finally got connected with Centro Hispano and that has changed my whole college experience. I now have such a great group of friends that I went from wanting to go home every weekend in August and September to not wanting to go home now, even on the breaks! Freshman year is a time of such growth and really learning about who you are as a person. Some of that learning is difficult, but if you just work through it and persevere you will be rewarded with a college experience that transforms you both socially and intellectually.
UNCW is an amazing college filled with progressive, intelligent and hopeful students. All of the offices are beyond helpful, and paperwork for beginning the school year made it all the more helpful. I made the right decision coming here. There is a bit of a party scene, but it's not too much. Students will actually travel to other colleges, like East Carolina University, to go to the biggest parties. However, there is a lot of alcohol and drugs on campus. I've never felt unsafe on campus, and I absolutely love the atmosphere. The only downside is the cost!
UNCW is a wonderful university with quality professors and a beautiful campus. My time there was memorable and prepared me exceptionally well for grad school. Seahawk Village is an awesome place to stay campus! The beach plus the films and TV shows that are constantly being produced in Wilmington make it a unique and extraordinary experience. I am now at UNC Chapel Hill Kenan-Flagler business school, and my professors here have referenced the Cameron School of Business as the NC business school they consider 2nd to their program. If you know anything about UNC, you know that is high praise. I feel lucky that I have had these experiences at both institutions, and I would recommend UNCW to students who want a laid back campus atmosphere combined with rigorous study, especially at Cameron.
