I can honestly say I cannot imagine being this happy with any other university. I had high standards, as someone wanting to attend college here since the age of 14, but I was not disappointed in the slightest. The Elementary Education program creates such a close-knit and knowledgable group of students that I am so excited to see teach. As a pretty quiet person myself, there are people in my Elementary Ed classes I wouldn't even imagine speaking to or having anything in common with, but everyone is so extremely supportive and it truly feels like a big family. The professors in my department are very well-respected and knowledgable, while still clear that I can go to them with any personal issue I need advice on. The surrounding town is also amazing, there is so much to do while still keeping the small-town energy that draws a lot of students to campus. This University, especially the Elementary Education program, have exceeded my expectations in every way. I cannot recommend it more!
In my time at The University of Montevallo, I have discovered an amazing small town where I can talk to anyone comfortably both in my academics and in public. The academic and social opportunities provided by The University of Montevallo have been instrumental in my growth, with professors who are always open to discuss problems or concerns and free events are always happening on campus. Moreover, my involvement in Alpha Delta Pi has not only added depth to my college experience but has also allowed me to form meaningful connections and lifelong friendships with my sisters and feel fulfilled in my leadership and volunteer qualities. The resources available, from Disability Student Support Services, TRIO, counseling services, career development center, and overall just a beautiful campus, has always made me feel welcome and more than a number in a roster. The University of Montevallo isn't just an institution; it's my second home.
If you want to be ridiculed for your lack of interest in being a music major or sharing a cramped dorm with someone then this is the perfect place for you! The minute you step foot and campus you can practically sense the feeling of arrogance from the students AND the teachers. If you decided that music is much more overwhelming than it seemed, the teachers will let you know that you're an idiot for thinking that. The music majors re-enforce those ideas but making fun of you if you don't know every event that's going on. The campus is in the middle of nowhere so there's nothing to do but suffer. The other teachers are pretty understanding, though AND the food is really is really good. Besides that, this campus was built to make people hate Montevallo.
