The University of Minnesota is a very good school for almost all of the majors it provides, and has a very strong reputation in most industries. The professors I have encountered in my time here have all been extremely knowledgeable, personable and passionate about what they teach.
I am personally a big football and basketball fan, and although UMN may not stack up very well in those departments, we are a force to be reckoned with in volleyball and hockey. This drew me in and gave me a new interest in sports I previously knew nothing about.
The university also provides a plethora of student resources, events and opportunities aside from sports as long as you put yourself out there. They provide a great opportunity to socialize and network and possibly learn something useful for the future!

I'm a freshman at the U and after experiencing much of what the university had to offer, I realized how fitting this school was for me. The academic and advising support I received greatly helped me decide how I want to plan my undergrad career to reach my professional goals; going into college I was very indecisive about what I wanted to pursue, and now I'm set to graduate early majoring in Sociology of Law, Criminology, & Justice!
I think the academic and professional opportunities make up for the sub-par dorms, dining hall food, and public safety to an extent, but I hope to see these areas improved in the future. All of my professors have been helpful and very knowledgeable in their fields and there are tons of opportunities to get involved in student life. It's not hard to find your communities but the size of the school and all the opportunities make it easier to put yourself out there and do what you want to do!

I just finished my freshman year at the University of Minnesota and have really enjoyed my experience her so far! Most of my courses have been interesting and my professors have really helped me better understand class content. As a student, there are tons of resources and opportunities available to you as well, if you take the initiative to seek them out. There are also tons of things to do on campus, such as participating in clubs and attending sporting events, as well as off campus in the surrounding Minneapolis area.
