My college is not a traditional college and definitely not how college is portrayed in movies. Dorms were added right before the pandemic, they are located in Hallowell about a 15 min drive to the school. The campus is pretty small with no cafeteria only a small cafe. There is a gym complex but it is up and away from the main buildings where most classes are held. The dorms are set up like small apartments with private bathrooms and full kitchens, and they provide a shuttle service for the students who don't drive. The architecture building is a building in between the campus and the dorms and is not on the normal shuttle path. I find that the school is not good at communicating with students. I have missed important financial aid and class deadlines and was not informed that my architecture portfolio had not been received. I wish that they would help students more; make sure we are doing ok and know how to use the online services, how to drop and add classes, and worst case scenarios
I'm an online student and I'll say that the classes at my former community college were much better than my classes at UMA. Disorganized is one why I'll describe the classes and also the school administration. I had classes where the lectures were recorded 7-8 years ago and that could be ok but one class really didn't offer any information in the lectures. Another class had no lectures, just read the text book and do the bi weekly discussions and two exams. There was minimal feedback, and if there was feedback it was from the TA. I'm even sure there was actually a professor. It felt like the professors really didn't know how to run online courses.
I'm an online student and I think they mean well but the professors are unorganized or their lectures are super old. Sure the lecture thing may not matter but it's seems lazy. I'm not really feeling this school.
I ain't pay that much just to take ancient, misinformed courses.
I took an online class, it was going to be in-person format at first, but they change to a web/online class. I was hoping to get the newest lectures content of the instructor. But turned out that the instructor didn't update the lecture video nor the introduction video about certain crucial courses relates to the content. I pay the exact same price as an in-person class, so I expect to get the same quality with this online course. At least give me some of the newest versions of the lectures, please. This instructor uses the old lecture/introduction video from who knows how many past years or semesters before. And the instructor even states that this video is an "old introduction with misinformation". However, I think the better option to show that you really care about the quality of education and the student is to film the lecture again with up-to-date, correct course information. Just please update your video.

You get your money's worth. It's a cheap school but it has many drawbacks. Personally, I think that the university's performance is declining every year because it seems like many staff members do not care about the student body. The professors are great and really help the students succeed but the admissions, financial aid, and enrollment offices are downright terrible.
Make sure you mail every form via certified mail or else it will get lost and the staff in administrative offices will blame it on you. If you have a question or need assistance with something, expect to be tossed around from office to office because it's unclear who knows what. If you e-mail someone, use short sentences because you will otherwise get a response that clearly shows the reader does not understand what you mean.

More communication within the financial aid office
Everytime I apply for financial aid, the school brings something to the table that sets it back longer. For instance, I sent in my fafsa and everything and they put a immunization hold to stop it, I filled that out and they now, just now planted another hold, after telling me i only needed to complete the first hold. They make it stressful and difficult to continue with one's education and living
I don't really like fraternities nor am I in one nor I care for them.
Well in the winter it's cold and it is hard to get to school sometimes but I manage.
Cold, snowy winter, beautiful fall, muddy and cold spring.
I am just beginning the scholarship process, but I understand that the financial aid office will provide resources for scholarships. The Financial Aid Office is very helpful with FAFSA too.
There isn't actual dining but the school contracts for food to be brought in a couple of times a week. Occasionally free food is offered during events. There are plenty of fast food restaurants within a mile of campus.
i live in Maine, so during the winter the weather can get nasty. Usually if a big snow storm comes, the school will close down. There are a lot of students who commute from several hours away so mostly it is for the safety of the students.
I would give UMA a C when it comes to grading students overall feeling towards diversity on campus. A lot of minorities stick together, and students of different social classes also do the same. It is a lot like high-school versus college, and I think that occurs because of the fact that the school is strictly commuter.
