University of Lynchburg Reviews
Rating 3.7 out of 5 708 reviews
University of Lynchburg is a lovely small to mid-size college with beautiful scenery and exceptional staff members, professors, and programs. I was able to connect more personally with my professors than I would have if I attended a larger college. One of the issues I had as a commuter student was an overall lack of connection to other students and peers. Although the school held various commuter student events, it was hard to make friends as I was not seeing others as frequently. I felt a general sense of loneliness and isolation, and ended up graduating without making any deep or meaningful connections. Although it was due to my own personal circumstances and faults, I wish the school would have done a better job of reaching out to students who felt alone or were struggling with other issues. I feel a lot of my mental health struggles went unnoticed by professors. A monthly wellness check would have been a good program to implement.
I am in love with the small campus atmosphere, individual attention from professors who care about you as a person, and the ease to get involved in the campus community. There is genuinely a place for everyone and so much support so long as you reach out for it!
This was NOT the university for me. The student body averaged about 3,000 in total-so this is a SMALL school. Housing was terrible and my RA did not care about anything at all(she smoked cigarettes in her room). The food was okay in the beginning, but the limited options available were unappetizing. Overall, Lynchburg gave the same effect as a sundown town for Black students. Campus safety was pretty attentive, but off campus and the general surrounding area was not the safest for students of color.
