While I love the area and it is on my home island. The Astronomy portion of my classes was incredible and my most memorable class! However, the online portion of it felt a bit lackluster and did not work out very well. It is clearly something they at the time had absolutely no experience in and it showed. I would recommend that you attend their in-person classes only.
Maui College is very affordable compared to other universities. They provide various majors such as Culinary Arts, Nursing, Business, and many more. You will not feel out of place because everyone there is extremely nice and will make you feel like family. In addition to that, the University has an ample amount of clubs and events you can attend. My only complaint about the University Of Hawaii Maui College is that some of the buildings have not been renovated for a long time and some programs are not funded enough.
I really enjoyed teaching here. Students were great, huge diversity from age, experience and culture. Only a few students didn't take the classes serious, most were very dedicated & did well. At first I felt supported, but in time island jealousy increases....Unfortunately, I found the administration to play favorites aka island friends & family when it came to scheduling courses over regard for quality. Co-workers were very competitive and that influenced nonconstructive & non respectful interaction between staff. I was disappointed to create a successful course only to be told if it was scheduled one more time, It would become property of UH and anyone could then teach the class at any campus. I was excited and inquired about working multiple campuses, I was told someone else would teach my class at locations I asked about. I felt I was supported very much by students but not by coworkers or administration. I know it's an island, but there should be standards.
