I really learned my lesson the first semester. Sitting in a classroom is a breeze. I have to make some big adjustments for next semester with this online thing.
This school was a waste of money. I admit that some of the professors were not as bad as the others (because they were BAD). The only good thing about Akron was their athletics. Not to mention the city was somewhat dangerous to walk around in (there were shootings right behind my dorm almost every week). The food was atrocious (it was cold, moldy and overall nasty). The dorms were filled with weed smoking students and the RAs did nothing to stop this issue.
It's very expensive ($1400 for one class?!). On top of tuition costs, they make you pay hefty fees for transportation (which I don't use at all), engineering program, engineering infrastructure, undergrad and course fees. You passing or failing classes depends on which teachers you get. You can have the same grades as another student and you fail while he passes. The campus is an average size and the parking is horrible. I usually spent around 25 minutes trying to find a parking spot.
I do not feel very safe on campus; but other than that the classes and professors are great and so far I have had a good academic experience.
Good school to get undergraduate degree, the professor are there to help, but the clubs and fraternity and sorority are very poor and they have little to no value on campus, wished that they would be more involved such as those at other schools. There is not much to do on campus, they have the required facility needed for everyday routines
I do not like The University of Akron. I think the professors are not the nicest and the advisors are not helpful at all. I transferred to The University of Akron from Kent State University and I found it extremely difficult and confusing to schedule classes and set up appointments with advisors.
I had several great experiences at Akron, but overall the university experience there was mediocre. While the clubs are numerous and quite fun, there is little school spirit among the student body, and many of the teachers do not seem passionate about the subject matter they are teaching
Honestly, the campus itself is super easy to get around and classes aren't bad. The environment is very cliquey in a way. People aren't too friendly and unless you know someone who knows someone chances are, you won't be going to any parties. Also, for some reason everyone leaves on weekends to go home. It is completely dead on campus Friday night through Sunday afternoon.
So far, I am disappointed. Still waiting to see.
I do not go to parties so no opinion
A lot of bad choices has occurred over the years with greek life and it is taking a while for it to gain substance
School spirit is good, but the "primary" teams aren't that great, and it shows in performance. We have a 30,000 person stadium that never gets close to halfway full.
During the day you are pretty safe, and there are campus Police all over the campus and also many safe zones all over. The Local Police station is just a few blocks from the campus. However at night, every few weeks or so, there is always an armed robbery near campus.
There is very little involvement in Greek life and most of the Fraternity and Sorority houses are run down and in poor shape. People usually have negative opinions when someone mentions Greek life.
The on campus food is not good. Robs is the worst by far, it is not clean and the options are very limited compared to what they tell you during orientation. Freshens is only ok and is very expensive.
To many paper work to do in your own with no help, and it was my first time that I ever have to do paper work like these with no help from the school and how it go
Living on campus is an experience which every freshmen has to endure. I hated my experience in the dorms because I felt trapped and there were more rules to follow then what I had at home. The campus life is supposed to be fun and adventurous. The socials are alright sometimes but most are boring and normally not in a good time frame. The walls and doors are thin so anyone running by or talking can be heard throughout the room. There is a limit on number of guest allowed to visit at a time and certain house materials not welcome like coffee pots. I did enjoy meeting new people but, not that fact that I can't even study in my own room because of the noise levels. The food place are convenient and expensive to use anything other then swipes. I didn't realize how fast swipes go by because everything is close to six dollars so I do wish I received more. The cost of housing is ridiculously high compared to everything not included with staying in the dorms. Housing off campus is much cheaper, nicer and has less rules about living styles.
Rob's will always make you sick. Everything is overpriced. Not really many options for food either. Doesn't even compare to other colleges.
Dorms are rather overpriced and pretty disgusting.
The University of Akron has very little strictness at my school. However I am not too knowledgeable about my campus' policies.
