University at Albany, SUNY Reviews
Great school and campus! The professors are welcoming and informative. Campus life style is relaxing, friendly and competitive as the same time. Student housing for freshman is fantastic. We are living in quad rooms with private bathroom. Albany is a big and diverse school but it is a perfect opportunity to meet and greet other students. Security seems to be a very important aspect and noticeable component on campus. I feel safe and comfortable in my new environment.
I visited the University at Albany in Summer of 2018. I was in love with the campus and our tour guide was very helpful when it came to our questions. I enjoyed the tour so much that I became a Great Dane in the Fall 2018 as a transfer student. The campus is extremely beautiful, welcoming and, lively. When events and programs are hosted it's created by the students. Our Student Association is phenominal and very divered when it comes to making sure we, the student have a say. There is never a dull moment on campus and if you think there is then you're doing it wrong. I am constantly busy with clubs, organizations, social life, and, of course classes. The professors I have dealt with are very caring which I was worried about since UA is huge, but it is possible to have a close relationship with your professor! They want to get to know you.
UAlbany is one of the larger SUNY schools which means there is a lot to do on campus and the larger community. It's easy to get involved in campus organizations and they don't feel exclusive. The academics here are top notch. The classes are challenging but never unfair and most of the professors are very willing to engage with students at all levels. There are resources on campus for tutoring, resumes, improving writing skills, and career planning. There are also a lot of different organizations/companies in Albany that offer internships and a lot of majors require you to do an internship, which is great. Some negatives are campus housing- way too expensive and dorm food- mediocre. My advice would be to find off campus housing. Also this is becoming a bit of a party school. If you are an in-state student the tuition is reasonable, if you are out-of-state I would not recommend applying here unless you can get a scholarship. Overall, UAlbany is a great school with great people!
