The academics are amazing. Ask the upperclassmen which professors generally are open to research- it will help in the long run for graduate studies and internships. Research is very plentiful and many professors are willing to help out. This is the chance to work with large equipment and get your name on a published paper.

The students are another story. About 85% of the campus are privileged rich white students without the understanding of real world struggles. The other 15% of the campus population are the down-to-earth people. These are the ones that make Union a unique place to be. Many seclude themselves from Greek Life and create their own niches. Find like-minded people to make the experience your own. Change social scenes. Meet new people. NOT ALL Greek students embody the stereotypical Union student, so look for them!

It's easy to feel like an outsider, but faking to be a part of the 85% is harder than it sounds and can be lonesome.

Union is a mid-tier school, and it shows it. Although the professors are (for the most part) excellent and very supportive, many of the students are mind-numbingly unintelligent, and even more just don't care. The only parties are at frats, which, with the exception of AD, are all exactly the same. Think high school homecoming but with more alcohol. They mostly revolve around freshman girls grinding with brothers in overcrowded, sticky, hot rooms with Drake and other top 40s pop blaring. Outside of parties, students are mostly dull and substitute wearing Vineyard Vines for having actual personalities. Don't come here unless you're wealthy, white, and from the northeast.
Review Continued: The social scene is Greek dominated; the Minerva system is an absolute joke. Parties are moving off campus. The administration is cracking down on Greek life HARD! On campus parties are no longer the same, and are pretty much used as pre games for the off campus parties, Wednesdays nights are practically nonexistent compared to what it was when I was a freshman thanks to the cops and administration (more of a small gathering night for upperclassmen), and Thursday AD dinner parties (which is a frat known for hosting the spot to be on a Thursday night) no longer exist due to the administration. Spring term at Union is still pretty lit though, given that we have ReUnion weekend, Lobster Fest, and Spring Fest. The social scene for the most part, given that Greek life makes up 70% of the student body (Union butchers this statistic as it includes freshman, even though you can't pledge until sophomore year) is getting blackout and going to an off campus party nowadays.
