I am currently a Junior at SUNY Potsdam and have enjoyed my time here thus far. I personally have enjoyed the life-long friends I've made, the connections I've made with my professors/department, and with those in the local community (especially, at the local coffee shop - Jernabis!). SUNY Potsdam, like many colleges, is what you make it. If you put yourself out there, join activities you like/are passionate about, and apply yourself in your department, the chance of you enjoying your college experience increases. Potsdam has a variety of student clubs/organizations and sports teams to join to connect with peers outside of classes too. Academics at Potsdam vary in quality depending on the department you are in, so I highly recommend searching and reaching out to your department of choice before attending. Dorming at Potsdam is pretty good and food is average/has downgraded slightly since COVID, but PACES is actively trying to improve. I recommend checking out Potsdam!
Potsdam was such an amazing place! The campus is full of diversity and talent. Their arts department, especially the Crane School of Music, is out of this world. You can find some sort of performance nearly every weekend between classes, clubs, and the theatre/dance department. All of the programs that Potsdam has to offer are great programs with amazing faculty and advisors that truly care about the students. There are a ton of different clubs that you can join as well as Greek Life opportunities. There is also a local agency called Reachout that students have the opportunity to train with and subsequently volunteer at. Reachout is a Crisis Hotline for St. Lawrence county. I volunteered with Reachout and loved every minute f it. The food is great, the people re really, nice, and the campus is beautiful. It's also not too far from Lake Placid, the Adirondacks, and the US/Canada border; so, finding something to do isn't a challenge. I loved my time at Potsdam and truly miss it.
Potsdam is a great place, staff are kind and considerate. The professors are amazing people and can relate to us students, and the environment has a sense of being close to those around you. The places off campus are vibrant and inviting with many people that are interesting and good to meet. For my 4 years I have made many memories with people i never thought I could be around, and I have become more free and hopeful towards what my future holds. If I had to choose to go back to my last year of high school and pick which college to attend, I’d go with here, I don’t think I would be who I am today if not for the interactions I have with this community, for which I have forever grateful for what I have found.😊
