Southwestern Community College - Iowa Reviews
Being in the music program at Southwestern Community College, my schedule is different from the average student. Music is what I do all day, and with around 20 credit hours per semester, there isn't time for much else. I feel like being forced to work is preparing me greatly for what is next to come. There is also a wide variety of classes, many of which are required. This leaves every student with a assortment of skills, from arranging, to teaching abilities, even studio engineering. Among the skills I have acquired thus far through the variety of classes, working hard is probably the most valuable of all. There is no other way to graduate this music program, and I think the syllabus is well-suited for young musicians. Although I am excited to graduate soon (the music program only lasts 2) I will greatly miss my classmates and teachers, both of whom I have grown very close with. Everything I have learned here will surely be utilized throughout my career in music, and life in general.
Southwestern Community College was a good choice for me. I was able to go outside of my comfort zone and experience a lot of new things in a way I would not have if I went elsewhere. I was able to excel in my learning experience thanks to the staff who go out of their way to help you succeed. There is a lot of diversity at SWCC and I was able to become friends with people from all over the world. Living on campus, I was given the opportunity to participate in all different types of activities with dorms that are sizable and clean. My experience overall was very positive and I am glad that I made the right choice for myself.
At Southwestern Community College I participated in volleyball, which gave me a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I would recommend going out and meeting people to make the experience more enjoyable. After volleyball, this current semester I am taking all my classes online so I can work full time. Not something I would recommend, it is difficult not getting to grow a relationship with a professor. Although the classes are thorough it is not the same as a face-to-face class.
