Southwestern College - New Mexico Reviews
When I was looking into graduate programs for Art Therapy Counseling I was immediately drawn to Southwestern College because of the seemingly warm and inviting atmosphere. Throughout the admissions process I was made to feel like I would be a great addition to their student body and I began to feel like I could excel there. The administrative staff has been incredibly helpful and encouraging as well. I think this school is unique for several different reasons, but I especially appreciate that it is only a graduate program providing institution. Because there is no undergraduate university attached, I believe that the staff is focused solely on Counseling and Art Therapy Counseling, the two graduate programs provided at Southwestern College.
Southwestern is awesome because it allows you to complete your counseling practicum and internship through the counseling services center sponsored by the college itself. Prospects of getting a job upon completing a Master's and testing for licensing are very high, most students are working in a private counseling agency or community services counseling agency after obtaining their degree.
Class sizes are small for a good reason, studio artist need more space than just a desk so it is nice to be able to spread out in the art therapy studio courses. Discussion courses are small as well, typically chairs are put into a circle and discussions are conducted this way, as a group therapy session would be arranged. Professors are knowledgeable, passionate, and always eager to help students form a better understanding.
