I have attended Southern Union (Opelika Campus) for one semester and it has been the best educational experience of my life. This campus is very compact and clean. My professors are extremely good at teaching and are always willing to give extra help during their office hours. It is about 20 minutes from downtown Auburn! I would highly recommend this school to any Alabama resident. In-state tuition is very fair for the level of education I've received. Although our athletics and most clubs are run through the Wadley campus, we still have school pride; go Bison!
If you are searching for an easy school with a plethora of canceled classes, look no further. Southern Union State Community College is a junior college that shouldn't be taken seriously. Most of the professors are unqualified and care little about educating their students. The few teachers that do care perform wonderfully. The academic advisors are frequently out of office or simply unwilling to help. On the bright side, the cafeteria and bookstore are satisfying. The meals offered in the cafeteria are delicious; the bookstore offers a myriad of snacks and drinks. They also sell most of the supplies needed for class. One security guard can be seen on campus, making it difficult to feel safe. Night classes are offered, but the only thing keeping you safe in the evenings are the scattered lamp posts across the campus. If you are looking for an academic challenge, I do not recommend this establishment.
Southern union provides students with the chance to be introduced to the college world without being overwhelmed. There are administrators to help students register for classes, buy books, and mentor them throughout the semester. Although Southern union is a community college they do not make the classes easier than they should be and students will be prepared to go to any university.
