Junior: The University of Puerto Rico, specifically the Mayagüez campus, is the cradle of engineering in Puerto Rico, for this it does not come without its disadvantages. Over time it has become a university where professors do not take enough care of their students. It has become a self-teaching process. Despite the fact that I am very proud to have the opportunity to be a product of the public university of Puerto Rico; I think that there are currently other alternatives, the price of tuition has increased exponentially over the last few years, so much so that in a few more years there will be no difference between the cost of tuition at public universities compared to universities private. Freshman: My experience overall in UPRRP has been amazing. Not only is it a beautiful place, but it is also historical. The university has everything from housing, to food, to a bank on campus. Even though the college is really big, there is a humbling and warm feeling to it. I recommend you search your professors beforehand and make any necessary changes. Senior: I really liked the fact that it is a relatively small campus and that made the student-faculty experience a lot more intimate. Because it is a small campus, you form a little family with those in your major because you basically took all of your concentration classes together. There are numerous academic associations and many opportunities to learn about graduate programs, internships, investigations etc. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is a free period (from 10:30am to 12:00pm) in which, every student has the chance to participate in their associations reunions and activities and every week there are different activities programmed such as, movies, conferences, concerts, plays, games etc.... Sophomore: From my experience as a student at this institution, it's an excellent place to study. The campus is filled with trees and vegetation which gives it a very nice atmosphere. Personally, that's one of my favorite traits of this college. The student community is very nice and are always willing to help. There are a good variety of associations for you to join no matter your major. Unfortunately, if you want to join a sports team there's only a few choices. Just like any other institution, there's good professor and the ones that give you a hard time, but don't let that stop you from achieving your dreams. Senior: The Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music is a conservatory full of a diverse community. It has Puerto Rican Students, Latin Americans, Afro-Americans, North Americans and few Europeans. There is a lack of race discrimination and the community is also very inclusive with the LGBT community. The instrument professors are excellent, and studying there is way cheaper than in the United States. Is one of the few conservatories in the world that teaches Caribbean music. Usually, students find a music related job afterwards, in jazz projects, classical orchestras, schools. Also, most of them get into prestigious graduate schools. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a cafeteria or a dorm/housing. Nevertheless, there are restaurants and fast foods in the area. Most people live nearby, renting rooms in apartments.
