Alum: North Dakota State University was some of the best experiences I have had in my life. This includes academics such as internships as well as extracurriculars. There was always something going on during the week and on the weekends to get you involved in the NDSU community or the Fargo community at large. When I got in to my major, my classes became more focused and smaller so that I was better able to focus and be more comfortable in class. Some of the larger class sizes did not make it easy for me to ask questions in class. My overall experience at NDSU was great. I spent a lot of time on campus doing homework in the various spaces available. My one request is tunnels or skywalks for the brutal North Dakota winters... Junior: Academically, the college lacks consistency. Certain programs, such as general education requirements, lack substantial teaching and learning. However, other areas of academics, for example, Biology, are vast and difficult. This disconnect in academics negatively effects my peers and I’s ability to preform consistently academically as-well. The smaller size of campus and student body aids to facilitate a familial and belonging feeling. Despite the low number of students, social events are happening frequently to foster community. I have learned factually, socially, and internally with my time at UVA-Wise, so overall the experience has been beneficial. Issues with the school would include a lack of diversity, small local community outside the campus, and fluctuations in academics. Graduate Student: I attended Mayville State University when I was in my 30'sand had just gotten divorced and had two small children. The University greeted me with open arms and was sympathetic to my situation. I felt out of place at first being an older student but my professors were on my side and supported me wholeheartedly. They gave me one-on-one time when I needed their guidance and Student Support Services was always available for any general guidance. I always had assistance with reports and computer lab help. The whole University made me feel at home and I excelled in my studies and my self esteem soared. I had a few co-op jobs which I loved and learned about the banking business and was able to show off my accounting and computer skills which lifted my self-esteem even more. Freshman: I'm a freshman this year and UMW has defied my expectations. I remember checking this site and seeing an alarming number of negative reviews, but the school seemed like such a perfect fit for me every time I'd visited in person. Thankfully, I chose to ignore the majority of those reviews. I've been blown away by how quickly it felt like home. Firstly, the campus is beautiful. Every building has a comforting, classic façade that gives the entire campus, along with ample greenery, harmony. It's an ideal size as well, and 10/10 dorms. Secondly, there's a real sense of comfort and community here. Most everybody here, especially the staff, is friendly. All of my professors are passionate about their subjects and care about their students. My first week here I found a great group of friends. Sure, there are some characters, but that's to be expected. You just have to find your people. And yes, there are some parties, just don't expect to find a party every night. Sophomore: My overall experience was a 9/10. This place is like no other, it’s like my home away from home! Everyone is super nice and there for everyone no matter the situation! I would highly recommend this college for someone to come to! There’s only a few things I didn’t like, that would be most of the time the cafes food was never good, the foods in the cafe didn’t match what was on the menu and almost every time the chicken was raw! The coaching staff is super nice and cheers you on even if they aren’t your coach! With softball there was a lot of favortism showed this past year and a lot of people talked about and laughed at!
