University of Washington
#26 Top Public Universities in America

Junior: The University of Washington, students here usually call it UW. It has many amazing buildings and a wonderful study environment. Every time I go to the library, I can quickly go into study mode because when you see everyone is studying, you get some amount of stress, which keeps you motivated. I think this type of "stress" is actually good for us. One of the previous research has stated that some amount of stress/anxiety will not cause health problems, instead, they can make people focus. Also, the UW has many research opportunities and volunteer works that you can do in your undergraduate or graduate years. These experiments can help students to understand what might be a good career for them, and boost up their resume in the meantime.
I think UW is an amazing school!

Sophomore: When I left high school, I already knew that Clemson University would be the school that I attend. Overall, Clemson provides a lot of different opportunities and it is overall a great school. The athletics here are very good, the professors here are very good and will work with you, and overall we have really good academics. I came in wanting to pursue an Engineering degree, but ended up changing and becoming an Education and the process between that went really smoothly and it was all because of the advisors at hand. Overall and altogether, Clemson provides a safe space, a family atmosphere, and overall it has been a great time here!

Senior: The campus is very beautiful and bike friendly. There are tons of interesting classes to take and the quarter system is amazing. It is very close to the beach, so during the weekends or in the evenings it is nice to head over and relax. The campus food is very good and has diverse options, but by the end of the quarter I am desperate for any other food. The transferring process was easy, although I have had to repeat a few classes. But overall, proud and happy to be a Triton!

Alum: I loved so many things about University of Maryland, College Park. The entire experience was great, with just a few small items to improve (the campus is hilly to walk around! great for exercise, less great on sticky summer days). The professors and academics are world-class at a private institute, very invested in the teaching and helping students. The campus feels safe, diversity, inclusive and welcoming. There is a large student body, which means a lot of opportunities to meet other great people. Overall, it felt like a great to attend Maryland, both for the academics, the experience, broadening your horizons while learning about yourself and the world.

Alum: I loved attending the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate education. I was involved in a very difficult and demanding nursing curriculum but the education was great and prepared me very well for the profession. Even with a difficult major the sense of community at Pitt was always positive and with plenty of activities to choose from and on top of that, the school is located to the city of Pittsburgh! The school gives you a Pitt ID that gives you free access to the bus system which really encourages students to explore the city and opportunity to explore neighborhoods, restaurants, museums (also free with ID). Overall my professors were phenomenal and passionate about teaching us students. Choosing Pitt for college was one of the best decisions I ever made!

Sophomore: “The greatest strength of this school, for me, is the beauty of the campus,” says one student. The large campus and its surroundings offer “a lot of options, from museums, gardens, fountains, the famous Rock, where people paint to promote events and clubs, and a river in the middle of campus.” Boasts another student, “Some schools have terrible cafeteria food, but MSU has some of the best in the country,” with “a variety of choices as well as healthy options and meals for those with special dietary needs.” Great University.. Junior: Awesome school overall! Great social life for anyone because there are so many different types of people and things to do. Whether you like to go out all the time or do something more chill, there's something for you. Basketball games have THE best atmosphere in the country - Hoosier fans go crazy. Professors here are highly qualified and always looking to help you out whenever. They really want you to succeed and will help you do that as long as you put the effort in on your end. The alumni base is huge and always looking to hire IU alum. Companies come to campus looking for IU grads. So many different majors with highly rated programs. Many modern buildings for quiet study time. Best school for the overall college experience both socially and academically. Proud to be a Hoosier!

Michigan Technological University
#33 Top Public Universities in America

- HOUGHTON, MI
- Rating 3.76 out of 5 976 reviews
Freshman: So far my time at Michigan Tech has been great! Everything is very well thought out. For example, we don't have orientation during the summer. Instead, all freshmen come to school and attend an orientation a week before classes start. This makes sense for a lot of reasons: you're able to remember people and places better, you don't have to come up here in the summer, and you'll be able to hit the ground running.
Further, the outdoor area surrounding Tech is superb. Tech operates its own ski hill (Mt Ripley), golf course, and bike trails. In the warmer months, you can swim at Prince's Point. As the fall comes, the trees look incredible. And in the winter you can climb a frozen waterfall if you want. You can even see the Milky Way at Brockway Mountain, and if you're lucky, the Aurora Borealis!
One last thing: We get a lot of snow here, so keep that in mind. However, the buildings are very close together and some are connected.

There are lots of great programs to choose from--really good if you need to switch or don't really know what you want to do until you try something. There are so many different types of people here, you will connect/make friends with people. The food is excellent--like I'm an alumni and I miss the food, it's that good! There is a party scene if you like that, but also other scenes if you don't. Good public transportation. And the Alumni network is very strong--Alumni are throughout the country and are proud of their school and will hire you!

Junior: The University of South Florida has been a wise college choice for me. As a junior nearing graduation, I can honestly say that I feel extremely prepared to navigate the next steps in both my career and personal life. When I toured the campus in high school, I felt very comfortable both physically and mentally. The University of South Florida takes pride in their students and what they stand for as an institution. I have seen consistency in the inclusivity and care of the staff. Because I commute, I do feel as though I am missing part of the college experience. If I had to change one thing, it would be to become more involved even while living at home. Nonetheless, I am very proud to be a student at the University of South Florida. Go bulls!

Freshman: This college is great! They are so freshman oriented and work very hard to help incoming students adapt to college life. Also, the new dorms are great! It’s awesome to see colleges incorporating gender-inclusive areas to make all students, including those in the LGBTQ+ community, comfortable in their living spaces. Cal Poly’s “learn by doing” motto is taken to heart by the staff and faculty members, meaning students are truly encouraged to put themselves out there while incorporating their learning into life. The one complaint I have in the disorganization of the student portal. It’s pretty difficult to navigate if you’re not accustomed to using it.

Alum: I LOVE the diversity here, communities, and feels like a city with the pubic transportation. The five mini-campuses each have their own flavors and (as an analogy) reminds me of nearby NYC w/the five boros. There's something for everyone here and you can make the huge school feel small. There's energy in the NB part of campus; however, if you want to get out of town, NYC is only a train ride away (the train station is on campus). Ethnoburb Edison nearby has amazing food and is nearby.
Huge alumni base, brand recognition, and many career opportunities nearby (it's between two major urban areas). I interned at a Fortune 500 one year; hopped on the train to the city in the mornings and came back to my classes in the evening.
And, similar to NYC, no one cares about you here. There's merits in anonymity. No one is spoon-fed here; it prepares you for the real world!
Favorite classes were from the Western Philosophy department (ranked #2 in the world - once #1). Best faculty!

Alum: I loved going to James Madison University! I graduated in May 2018 with a major in Media Arts and Design (concentration in Interactive Design) and a minor in Art History. During my time at JMU, I was very involved in Student Ambassadors (tour guides), Madison Dance, and Alternative Breaks. As a black student, I was a little worried about attending JMU since the minority population is pretty small but I had a great experience. I never encountered any overt racism or felt any bias against me from my fellow students and professors. There were times though that I felt a little uncomfortable in the surrounding area of campus. I would occasionally see confederate flags, which left me feeling a bit cautious even though I didn't have any negative experiences (especially since I come from a very liberal and majority-black area). After graduation, I was able to find a job as a Graphic Designer within 3 months and I felt very prepared to complete the tasks that came with my job.

Niche User: I spent a few days there for a student weekend and it was incredible! The dorms are super nice and spacious. The college town surrounding the area is super cute too and there is so much to do! I loved the campus feel, it felt so homey and safe, yet clean and big with lots of opportunities. The food was also incredible consisting of chicken Parmesan and steak, a very healthy and filling meal. Walking by the football stadium was probably one of my favorite parts. It was so incredibly big and so cool. The South Donahue dorms were so incredibly nice. A few of them overlooked the Auburn baseball field and had such a nice view of the campus. I would definitely recommend staying there if you are interested in attending Auburn University. I love how many clubs Auburn has to offer. There are so mny options and opportunities there where you could most definitely thrive and grow as a person. Auburn is hands down my dream school and if I win this scholarship I will put the money towards Auburn.

Sophomore: UD has an amazing campus. The campus itself is split in to north and south campus, each pertaining to certain majors and sub colleges within the University. The programs are well funded and very in depth. They have many resources you can utilize such as the language proficiency center. They specialize in the languages offered at UD and have trained professionals and online resources you can utilize throughout your attendance. The professors themselves go the extra mile to help with anything your struggling with weather it be academically or personal. The campus library is up to date and well ran. Many students including myself utilize it during all hours of the day because it is comfortable, clean and a zen environment for studying and getting tasks done. My favorite part about the campus itself is the student diversity and variety of multicultural places to eat. There are many restaurants that offer a different and diverse menu, there is always an option for any food preference!

Junior: When I went to the University of Utah I hardly knew anybody, but through orientation I became connected with many of my friends which have been closer to me than my high school friends. This school promotes diversity for individuals in all walks of life, which has greatly attributed to my improved self-esteem. Professors are always passionate about the subject which they teach and are sensitive to your personal life. They truly care about their students, despite how big the class may be. The Campus is located on the downtown foothills of the Salt Lake mountains, aesthetically overlooking the city. A student has access to free commute on the UTA Frontrunner, bus, and Trax systems, as well as the Student Life Center gym. This school's student body is highly involved with volunteer, travel abroad, and work opportunities. It's never a dull moment in the student section: the PAC 12-league sports at the U are out of this world! I truly recommend this school for both prestige and experience!

I have been able to take coursework that is unique and beneficial to my career goals of becoming a nurse. While being as COVID-conscious as our state government will allow, I wish it could be required to wear masks while indoors on campus. Freshman: The University of Iowa is the place for me and I hope it will be the place for you! Being a freshman at the University of Iowa during a pandemic was a different experience than before. However, the whole Iowa community made me feel safe with the precautions taken and every professor helped me adjust to online learning! The community at the University of Iowa made me feel welcomed since the day I moved in. I’m so happy to have used educational resources outside of class to help me succeed in my classes. I highly suggest attending office hours with professors/teaching assistants or joining supplemental instruction! There are also many places to study! My personal favorite was supporting the businesses on campus and studying at the coffee shops while enjoying a latte! I truly have enjoyed my experience at the University of Iowa. Senior: I have to say this is truly one of the best universities with fully online BA programs that I've seen. I'm a graduating Spanish Major and I truly feel that the level of studies here has prepared me for Graduate School.
I love a lot of things about ASU Online--the flexibility, the affordability (for the most part if you can get Fin. Aid.),the high standards set. BUT let me say this: do not enroll in the Spanish online program unless you are prepared for a WHOLE LOTTA WORK! There were weeks that I had eight or nine essays due EVERY WEEK for 8 WEEKS. The workload in general for the Spanish BA is astronomic--mostly doable but it truly does take over your life after a while. I was able to do this because I'm a FT Student,no other responsibilities, but I cannot imagine trying to raise a family, work a job and have a social life AND perform well in this program too. Excellent academics but the bar is raised very high here. And when you graduate, they will try to strip FA down a lot.

The professors are nice, reasonable, accessible and want to actually help you succeed. The school spirit is great too, win or lose at sporting events. And in terms of fighting for BLM movements and social justice, our leaders have gone to the government with efforts to change the state flag of Mississippi, spread awareness of systematic racism and how to fight it, as well as encourage using our first amendment and the right to peaceful protest.
