Sophomore: Michigan is truly the best of all worlds! World class academics? Check! Top tier athletics? Check! Great party scene? Check! It is so easy to get involved with a wide variety of interests. There's more clubs than I can name here. Opportunities are plentiful, especially involving research. STEM majors especially can easily get involved with the hospital and research facilities nearby. Complaints: diversity should be better, and some of the first-year facilities are average. That being said, this feels like a very accepting school compared to the surrounding areas, and most people tend to be very open minded. Otherwise, Ann Arbor is a great town. Campus feels safe to walk around, even at night, and the directly surrounding areas generally don't have issues. Honestly, I can't speak highly enough about how great this school is. Freshman: Western Michigan University is a wonderful university where the city is mostly centered around being a college town. Nice big campus with some beautiful landmarks. Dorm size is relatively decent, but I have single room. There’s a lot of walking to do to cover the entire campus, and trust you get a hood workout with all the hills. The college of business is a great program to be a part of as well as the college of education. Bring that I am majoring in sports management my particular college is education but I’m minoring in business as well. As a freshman advisors are very necessary. They are the knees who really help you gain your college foundation. They help you set up your graduation plan which includes helping you select the appropriate courses. My first semester at Western has been overall great. I achieved a 4.0 for the end of the first term and that was a huge accomplishment. Freshman: As the first to go away to college in my family, choosing GVSU made it a lot easier to transition to the change of lifestyle. There were so many different scholarship opportunities that made the financial aspect of college a lot less scary. College in general can honestly be very difficult especially with making adjustments with roommates, friend groups, grades, social life etc. The thing that I liked most about GVSU was everything was very easily understood and the whole "college process" was made very easy especially as an individual who nobody in my family has ever gone away to college! Alum: I loved Eastern. There are a ton of things going on campus, but being a commuter school, there isn't much of a campus life. I still envied the campus-residence students, as the campus has strong potential for summer fun. The students are also some of the friendliest I've met. As a science major, resources were ubiquitous :) and located conveniently. Science professors and TAs alike were extremely knowledgable, approachable, and well-meaning, especially those of the chemistry and physics departments. The biology department, however, I found insincere, detached, and ill-supportive. The campus feels very safe; the campus escort service 'SeeUs' can be easily spotted all across the campus. Senior: I am going into my fourth year at Michigan Tech and I love it so far. The professors are easy to connect with and always have time to make appointments with you. The students are kind and there are lots of clubs and organizations to join! The campus is the perfect size, you can walk everywhere you need to go without breaking a sweat. Senior: Kettering is a unique college experience unlike any other. The main selling point, obviously, is its amazing co op program where you get to work in the engineering world as soon as you get here, but Kettering is much more than that. I love Kettering because of the amazing sense of community that it has. Due to its relatively large size everyone knows each other. Everyone is involved on campus in one way or another and always looking for something to do. Being an out of state student, I thought it would be hard to get accustomed to but it was super easy! I even got invited to Thanksgiving dinners by some of my friends when I could not go home for the holidays. The classes are amazing and taught by real PHD level professors and no TA's, which is a huge plus. The classes can be rather challenging at times but the professors are always eager to help and due to our smaller size are available for one on one tutoring, which is perfect. Junior: As a student who's just over halfway through my time at Hope, I can confidently say that I've enjoyed my time here. I have been able to learn how to overcome different challenges, form some lifelong friendships, as well as form strong connections with my professors. Since I started college during COVID, the majority of my freshman year was online, but I'm now all in-person classes and I think that's been extremely helpful in my college experience. I will say that I wish it was a little more diverse and accepting to people who aren't white, Christian, and able-bodied and neurotypical. I have seen struggles with how disabled students are treated, as well as neurodivergent students, which is slightly disappointing since the College preaches acceptance of all. But, those issues have been in select corners of Hope, and there are many places and people who want to help! As I rated below, the professors that I have had have been accommodating. Alma uses Canvas for their classes and I find that Canvas is accessible and easy to use. Junior: I have had the privilege of attending this university through my Early College Program. My high school is partnered with this university, so I am in my last year before earning an associate degree completely free. The campus is relatively small, but it is near Downton Rochester, which is fun and friendly to explore. The campus has a nice walking trail as well. The professors are amiable and work with you. I appreciate the small class sizes; the teacher-to-student ratio is terrific. They have a great student body center that is always planning something. They have a handful of recourses to help you if you are struggling. There are also many nice spaces to study and work. Even though this is a Christian university, it is not forced or shoved down your throat.
