Junior: My experience with Morgan has been up and down, especially since the pandemic hit us. Some of the professors have definitely been trying to be more lenient with due dates and extensions on homework assignments. What I like about Morgan so far is their policy on social distancing and trying to keep COVID-19 away. I highly recommend taking their summer and winter classes if you need to retake a class or just want to be ahead in general. Morgan has a lot of student organizations active to this day so join an organization if you can! They're really fun and super welcoming. Freshman: UMD College Park is a great school with lots of opportunities to learn, grow and get involved! This school is huge! The campus is beutiful and there is construction going on to increase student housing options. Although I do not participate in sports currently, I have attended a football game on campus and experienced a very vibrant and enthusiastic athmosphere during the game! Besides, you do not need to join any sports team to get a good workout around here. Just walking to classes can give you a pretty good workout every day! For fun activities outside of campus you can easily commute to Bethesda or DC, but there are plenty of places to eat and shop right outside of campus! I've had some amazing teachers and only one that was unprofessional. I prefer to take in person classes, but I have experienced online education as well over the summer due to limited class offerings. Freshman: Well I'm actually about to go there for my first year at the end of the month but I went on a tour with them some days ago and all I can say is wow. I've seen lots of reviews online but none of them can compare when you're there in person, the campus is visually really nice and small which is great since you don't have to waste time going around everywhere and there is a small number of people which is really nice. They have a superb academics program that grooms young people to become leaders in our society. The professors also appear to be kind, open, and helpful to students and thanks to the small class sizes there is more student-teacher interaction. The location is also very nice. It is set very close to a rural area where everything anyone might need is accessible easily. Freshman: By far, I loved my experience here! I was able to meet tons of new people and I liked the diversity (even though its a predominantly black university). Sophomore: I transferred to Loyola University Maryland for the Spring 2022 semester. I attended the University of Maryland College Park for the Fall 2021 semester and did not have a good experience there. When I got to Loyola, the admissions office was immediately welcoming and gave me many opportunities to meet people and get involved on campus. Senior: I'm in my senior year at Coppin as an HIM major and I love how supportive my professors are of my success. They provide many resources to help students succeed and give great advice on where to look for scholarships, volunteer opportunities, internships, and more. If you make yourself known and available, professors and staff members will ride for you when you enter the real world and need recommendations. I also like that there are many events that happen on campus throughout the year. Gives you more chances to meet people and figure out where you might belong at Coppin. The amenities available on campus are also good. The bookstore always has snacks and supplies I might need and it's also nice that there multiple places to eat on campus besides the café. Sophomore: So far my college experience is really just beginning. I am currently an upcoming sophomore, and I haven't really gotten into the inner workings of my major but I am excited to finally get into them this semester. While I did not join many organizations last semester, I did in fact join one which is a modeling organization called models collective. I love this organization solely based on the fact that it's based around helping women and even men increase their positive self-image. If people are looking for an org I would highly suggest that one, accepts everyone no matter if you're a beginner. Although I do not love the dorm I stayed in, the campus itself is very small but quite beautiful. Especially, during the spring when the flowers are starting to bloom and the trees regain their leaves. Senior: John’s Hopkins is a great university with wonderful teaching staff and TA’s that are committed to helping their students succeed. I would highly recommend STEM students to apply as the engineering, computer science and other non pre-med curriculum is world class too. The smaller classes really provide a more conducive learning experience. There are also many things to do in Baltimore and living so close to Washington DC provides other opportunities to explore. Alum: As a recent graduate and current graduate student, I cannot express how much I appreciate the high quality education I received at St. Mary's. It is in the middle of nowhere and there is very little party life, so you do need to really want to be there. But if you do, and fully take advantage of the opportunities the college has to offer, you will thrive. The courses are challenging and engaging, and really do prepare you for the real world. Niche User: Hub and I are big uni alumni and skeptical of small colleges. We're very impressed. Classes are small. Profs care about teaching, encourage kids to double major when they see talent, even had kayak event together. My child has a diverse group of friends. Some party, some don’t, but they all hang and don’t judge. Kids stop in just to chat with profs during office hrs. SGA has many well-attended events, Name that Tune,etc. “Off campus" wkend events exist too. Most kids seem deeply involved in many clubs and start new ones! Advisors are responsive, helpful. Career ctr is great, seeks out internships and leadership opps for kids. Town’s cute, has wkend events, but no cheap pizza/taco. Fitness ctr’s nice, has some classes. Freshman: Mount Saint Mary's is a wonderful school! It is smaller compared to other universities, so if you like being in a a close together learning environment with your classmates and teachers, then this school is a great fit. The campus is very scenic as there are grand mountains and plentiful trees! The school is always very clean so if anyone comes to visit, they will feel safe and happy to be in a healthy area. The food here is quite good as there are many options from salad and fish to burgers and pizzas. Due to Covid, some activities are not in person session right now, however there are still zoom meetings for clubs so you can still engage with other people about club topics and ideas. I am in my freshman year at the Mount and I have found much love within the nature. There are so many hiking trails and ponds, so you can explore and feed into your natural curiosity of being human. Alum: I attended the school of social work during a time when the university had been audited and dinged on it’s lack of diversity and inclusion. My earlier experiences were rife with unauthentic attempts at integrating more diversity and cultural humility. Graduate Student: I did the 5 year BFA/MAT program! I just graduated with my MAT in 2022. MICA has its ups and downs. My experience in undergrad was complicated because of COVID-19 closures and restrictions. But, the MAT program adapted well to all the challenges! The MAT program is incredible, full of amazing professors and your cohort becomes a lovely community. MAT did an incredible job preparing me to become a k-12 art educator. My classes explored strategies, theories, techniques, planning, and more. While the 3 internships (student teaching) allowed for excellent hands-on experience! The 5 year program can be hard to balance, as you start to take graduate classes while you are working on finishing undergrad. Some majors are more flexible than others to fit the requirements. MICA is located in Baltimore, which also has its ups and downs. Baltimore has a great art scene. Sophomore: For me, Goucher was completely the right choice. For many who start here, it is not. The students here are really wonderful and bright; a thoughtful conversation is never too far away. Yet many find that the atmosphere/academics are far from what they expected. Things to know -Very small and faces become familiar quickly -Right by downtown Towson but still a 20-30 minute walk since campus is secluded -Bus stop not too far and will take you into Baltimore (Inner harbor, Symphony, cinemas, etc)! -Professors are overall really great and I always know they want me to succeed -Small size means classes are sometimes canceled or postponed -Impossible to eat well if you have dietary restrictions -Goucher is in a stage of transition and there are a LOT of frustrations about facility management and lack of updates -The trails around campus are truly nice and fun -You must come out of your shell some to connect with the people on campus -Orchestra/choir/jazz are small but very mighty and fun...
