Freshman: My experience with Liberty University has been blissful, interacting with passionate residential staff who are sincere with the Father, supportive admissions officers over the phone, a direct and transparent website, and resources responding to many essential questions that undergraduates like me would have. If you are a true believer and lover of Jesus Christ in keeping His word and the Holy Spirit dwells in you, this is the college to attend, especially if you're in Virginia! I am an admitted online LU student, but I plan on attending residentially in the future because of the "LU Tour." The campus is gorgeous! Everything about Liberty University leaves a luscious impression. However, above that, I feel the peace of the Holy Spirit throughout. I recommend the LU 100%; you won't be disappointed.... Senior: This is my senior year at Old Dominion University and it has been a great experience. Academics wise they are very excellent, they make sure that all of their students have access to assistance when it comes to this area such as tutoring sessions in person and online and writing centers to help with papers. The professors are pretty good as well, some are very understanding when it comes to different circumstances that may arise during the semester but some unfortunately are not. All professors do offer office hours to provide a personal time outside of class if you need assistance with the material that has been taught or if you have any questions regarding you grades. I love that Old Dominion has student activities each week for students to engage with one another as well as open us up to new things. Alum: The program I was in was an advanced one. It was fast paced and very hands on! The amount that I was able to get out of the curriculum was highly dependent upon what I was able to accomplish on my own time as well as class time. Success was not a sole responsibility, but also that of others (a team effort). After the coursework was complete, it felt like a push to find employment regardless of employment status. Once a new job was located, all communication ceased. Freshman: The teachers here (if you do your research before registration) are amazing! The classes are fairly straightforward and the curriculum is standardized across VCCS so everything goes smoothly. VCCS recently switched to Canvas and has had a plethora of technical issues. But the proactive teachers clear things up and are very proficient when it comes to making sure students receive adequate communication. Advising can be good or bad. All of the advisors believe in you, but not all of them actually understand their job and requirements for the academic programs. But if you end up choosing the right advisor (note: you can see any advisor at any time regardless of your assigned advisor), you will be pushed and cared for and properly guided through the community college process. Freshman: Germanna is a caring and involved community college. They do everything possible to make sure your transition after college is as seamless as possible. There are different resources, such as "Germanna Cares" or "ACE Tutoring" that are available free of charge. The different options and class flexibility really helped me in my first semester of school. The professors are very nice, although I would advise looking them up before hand to make sure their teaching style would fit you well. Senior: Classes are never over 40 students, and very often under 20. This means students are able to build close working relationships with their professors and get personalized feedback and advice. Most departments have between 2 and 6 faculty members, so students take multiple classes in their major wirh each professor for better and worse. Unfortunately most administrative attention and grants seem to go to sports (its a D3 school) and redoing the interior of the science building, rather than to humanities and arts. This seems to be a trend at universities nationwide, and as a small private university MBU is under substantial pressure to compete.
