Senior: Whitworth's advantage over other many other schools stems from its interconnectedness and the ability for students to engage with the community. Over 4 years, especially if the first two are on-campus, it is easy to get to know other students and professors well and become an actual, meaningful member of the college, rather than just a transient (which is all but inevitable in state schools). Small class sizes paired with strong faculty makes for an involved academic experience, and special care is put into students' personal growth as well as specialized career skills. Whitworth has a high-achieving sports program, though student sections can be a bit sparse. The music department also brings very strong performers who often go on to play at high-ranking graduate schools. The strongest departments are Education, all STEM, Psychology, Communications, and Theology/Philosophy. Weaker departments are Nursing, Theater, and non-Spanish languages. Junior: I have loved my time at PLU, though I do think a majority of why I stay at this school is because of the friends I have made here. I really appreciate the small class sizes as it makes learning and building a relationship with your professor much easier. I appreciate the minimal amount of off-campus parties but, that being said, do not come here if you are looking for a party college environment! One thing that PLU needs to fix is the library hours - the library closes at 9pm Mon-Thurs, 5pm on Friday, isn't open at all on Saturdays, and opens at noon on Sunday and closes at 8pm. I know that a lot of students don't get done with classes and work until 6pm and then have to eat dinner so it never feels like there's enough time to actually work at the library. Another thing that could use some work at PLU is the accommodations provided. Graduate Student: I achieved an Office Assistant Certificate from BTC in 1998. The program included: basic math and English, written and oral communication, accounting, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and FrontPage, Internet research, typing and 10-key, resume writing and interviewing. I felt the program did an excellent job preparing me to start my career as an Administrative Assistant. The teachers presented clearly and answered questions. The facility was clean and functional. I used the library for research. The cafeteria was nice. BTC held Job Fairs and other events to help students get in front of potential employers before the end of the course. I was able to get a Pell Grant to cover tuition and books. College is a lot of work but this was a very hands-on and focused curriculum to get me prepared for work. Junior: I would like to see there be more classes offered during the early day time for higher education majors. As a student athlete I practice in the afternoon and find it hard to be successful and a student and an athlete when I have class during my practice hours. The education program also needs to get more of an outline in my opinion and have more professors and not that same ones for every class. My experience here has been good but also not. Sophomore: As a running start student big bend is pretty awesome! The teachers want you to learn, everyone is very supportive and accessible. I think the biggest issues with Big Bend is it's a bit far from town and the cafeteria unfortunately closed, so you will have to go to town for food. Sophomore: I have taken mostly science courses at Shoreline Community College, the best part of which has been the amazing teachers! The small class sizes have given me the opportunity to work one-on-one with professors that have doctorates in chemistry, anatomy and physiology, cellular biology, and microbiology. When I say that I leave every single class with new information, I mean it. No exaggerations. As far as change goes, I would love to see the buildings and equipment get some much needed updates. Sophomore: My overall experience at Green River has been amazing. The environment here has always been welcoming. I love how diverse the campus is and how it has given me the opportunity to make numerous friends from around the world. Green River is a safe and eco-friendly school that never has trash near it. Also, they are very accepting of people and their beliefs whether or not you are gay, bi, or any other religion. Graduate Student: My Skagit Valley College as a Running Start student was overall a good experience. I had many great professors, who always emphasized the fact that we’re willing to help us all. They were very kind and considerate. My PE professor even helped me on my graduation application process! Sophomore: Lower Columbia is a great place to start college in a relaxed, but stimulating environment. I think the biggest draw for me has been the friendly, small-town atmosphere. The instructors challenge you to do your best, but also do their best to help you succeed. I am pursuing an AA in music and I may be a little biased, but I think the music instructors at LCC are the best! I have also had many good Gen Ed instructors, probably the most memorable being the math instructor from my first quarter. If you ever take her class, you will know what I mean.
