Freshman: Auburn University is a great state university! There are plenty of opportunities to explore campus and make connections. Every year they have over a month’s worth of freshman related events to go to, it’s very welcoming. Advisors are friendly and I have had no problems with my professors. Study and you will get the most out of your classes, though Auburn has plenty of free tutoring/aid for students as well! The only things that have been a problem are parking and housing. I live off campus, but I have heard about the hygiene of on some on campus buildings being below par. Parking is also extremely limited, and there is a lot of construction going on in Auburn. There’s nothing wrong with the academia itself, but be prepared to take extra time to park in designated areas and walk to classes. Investing in a scooter or bike may be wise, but arranging your schedule to be manageably walkable also works. AU is very thorough with campus safety so the only issue there is extra exercise.... Senior: My time at the University of Alabama from 2020 to 2024 was an absolute whirlwind in the best possible way. Coming from Las Vegas, Nevada, it was a complete change of scenery, first off, being a part of Greek life was a huge part of my experience. The connections I made through my sorority were incredible. But it wasn't just about Greek life; the campus itself had this electric energy. Football Saturdays were a whole different level of excitement. The buzz around Bryant-Denny Stadium was infectious, and it's an experience I'll never forget. The culture around the football games was insane—I never imagined I'd be so into it, but Roll Tide became a part of my vocabulary pretty quickly! Leaving Las Vegas for Alabama was a big shift, but it was exactly what I needed. That mix of Southern charm and the vibrant college scene gave me experiences I wouldn't trade for anything. Other: I was just accepted to attend Samford, December 1st, and I am overly excited, as this is my 1st and top choice of schools. I am a Christian and the college represented everything I'm looking for in a college. The college is only 2 hours away from my primary home, which is great! I was very happy to learn about the fast track program the college offers, meaning I can get my masters degree in 5 years. Alum: I really enjoyed my time at Wallace. I will say, it's not very fun if you don't get involved. Since it is a community college, there are not that many people who hang out on campus. Most of us just drive to class and drive home. However, there are lots of events on campus where you can meet people. The instructors are very nice and willing to help you in any way they can. All of my instructors I had remembered my name, which I thought was cool and was something I didn't expect. The tutoring lab is AMAZING. It's free and they will bend over backwards to help you. Overall, I feel like I am much more prepared to transfer to my university because of Wallace. I feel like I got a good, quality education that will form the basis for whatever I do from here on. If you're considering Wallace, go for it! They have TONS of scholarships, and I got my time at Wallace almost completely paid for. Two years of undergrad basically free! Sophomore: When researching colleges I took it upon myself to do detailed research on every college in the United States where I could receive a valuable education, compete in my sport, and be a part of a family. I visited twelve colleges in eight states before I found Birmingham-Southern College. The thirteen-hour drive did not deter me from packing up my life in Texas and moving to the state of Alabama because I had fallen in love with the college and the state. I knew I had found a new home. On my campus, I am a tour guide, an athlete, an orientation leader, a tutor, a woman in stem, an honor society member and involved in Greek life. I do not participate in these activities for my resume. I participate in these activities because I love my community and my chosen family.
