Sophomore: I truly have loved my time here at BYU. I have found real people with real stories and have made genuine connections. I understand BYU to have a stereotype of only accepting a certain mold but I have found my people that go above that. It has given me a real sense of community and allowed me to fully encompass my identity; in faith, in love, in kinship, in belonging, and in becoming. Brigham Young University does have rules and honor codes that I understand the reason they are in place, however, I think that these rules can be extremely targeting to groups such as the LGBTQ+ community- making them feel like they cannot fully be themselves. As LDS members we have a calling to love and accept all our brothers and sisters and this school, as a representative of the church, should be modeling that but sometimes I think they fail to do so. Graduate Student: I liked that I could move through the program at an accelerated pace while on my summer break. This meant I would not need to quit my job, while I am obtaining this degree. I was surprised at how involved my counselor is in my education. I had mentioned that I was most worried that I wouldn't stay on track, if I wasn't meeting in person like a traditional school. He listened to that concern and we set weekly goals. He called me every Thursday to discuss and motivate me to accomplish what I really wanted and sometimes just needed a little push to get. He even began motivating me even before I started classes, by giving me the goal of filling out FAFSA and scholarships. Junior: My time spent as an undergraduate at the University of Utah has been both rewarding and challenging. Freshman: The community is small and inclusive, there are always events going on and ways to be included to meet new people! I’ve been living in the dorms and it has been a great experience. The food is very good for the most part and after scholarships (which most everyone gets) I have found it affordable with a simple job! Amazing classes here. All the teachers know you personally by the end of the class and are very kind when you are struggling. It feels like I’m at home here plus you get a scholarship for just being some programs like the art or music program. You also get a scholarship for returning each year. I’m hoping to finish my bachelors in 3 years since most my high school credits transfered. The best part is you are right in the middle of sugar house with a part right across the street and everything within minutes from you. Alum: Weber State University so a mix of social and academic. I found the professors to be interesting, dedicated, and knowledgeable. They really did want me to succeed. I recall when I graduated, one of my professors gave me a hug as I walked by. That meant a lot to me and I have always remembered it. I also recall a professor of Russian history who never uses a single PowerPoint presentation, an image, a video, or any other interactive media. All she did was stand at the front of the room and talk. It was the most fascinating class I ever took at that school! She was so engaging and her personal experiences so interesting that she didn’t need anything but her voice. On the social side, I made a friend or two that I am still in contact with today. Junior: Overall I have had a great experience at Southern Utah University. The vast connection SUU has to outdoor locations such as national parks and other outdoor features has made many aspects of my schooling enjoyable. I have been able to take classes that take advantage of living in such a cool location. I have studied geography, astronomy, and outdoor recreation in many nearby national parks! The smaller class size has made learning easier. I feel like this is a contributing factor for having so many professors who truly care about the students and helping them learn the concept. Senior: Best decision that I could have made for myself. If you're hesitant, please don't be. Do it, you won't regret registering especially if you are having a hard time getting accepted into a community college in California. Professors are the greatest! They want you to succeed. They go above and beyond to make sure that you understand the content. That you not only understand the content but that you grasp and retain it as well. Clinical rotation sites are a place to really use your critical thinking skills that you've learned in theory. The instructors will test your knowledge and make sure you understand what you're there for. They will test you on your assessments, they will give you scenarios to work through at the end of every shift. You will have to demonstrate your knowledge. Junior: Midwives College of Utah (MCU) is a small school that fosters a warm learning environment and a sense of community in students. The online learning program is flexible, affordable, and one of the most advanced midwifery programs in the country. Freshman: I absolutely appreciate the smaller class sizes. Teachers are very open and willing to work with you on an individual level, but also in group settings. Scheduling classes is easy. Scheduling and financial aid work hand in hand with you to make sure that your class schedule works with your schedule outside of school, but that you can afford your course load.
