Freshman: I have only taken summer classes but have had amazing teachers! I am fully online. I like being online because I feel it is more of a one-to-one. If I need help I can have a zoom meeting or email session. The two favorite classes I have taken so far are ethics and psychology. Everyone was telling me I would not like ethics class and that it was boring. My ethics teacher was amazing! She made the class very interesting! Junior: Martin Luther College is a smaller university located in the small town New Ulm, MN. I have always pictured myself going to a big city and enjoying the big city life, but Martin Luther surprised me with its' small family charm. I love the atmosphere here and all of the professors and faculty genuinely care about each student and build close relationships with everyone. The courses offered are also quite interesting because most students are on an education track so every course is demonstrating how to best teach. Junior: Personally, I love this place. The staff is incredibly welcoming and helpful and there are lots of resources if you need them. The facility is clean and the environment is pleasant for learning or studying. There are also lots of clubs and events to get involved in as well as opportunities like scholarships! Classes, at least the ones I've been in, are small and you can get to know your professors and peers. There are programs for certain majors and plenty of classes to choose from, except some of them may be online instead of at the campus. However, if you're struggling with an online class, M State offers tutoring programs to help you get on your feet, just one of the many helpful services they make available. Sophomore: I had the pleasure of attending Riverland Community College after graduating High School. When I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in computers. So by attending Riverland I got to explore my options when it comes to a career in computers. The instructors are phenomenal and truly care about your success. I never felt afraid of going to my instructor when asking for help. During my time at Riverland, I participated in Drama Club, IT Workstudy, and Student Senate. I felt by participating in these groups, I increased my interpersonal skills. After almost being done with Riverland, I truly found out what I want to do for a career. I have decided to pursue a career in the Motion/Performance Capture industry. So I will be transferring to UW Stout in fall 2021. Freshman: Overall, the staff are very patient and understanding. This would be a 5 star college, but there were a few problems I had while enrolled. One of my teacher's never responded to emails. Another one of my professors was very removed from his online class. He did not give lecture videos and we only learned from reading a book. We never really conversed with the teacher. Freshman: This is my first year of college and I could not be more pleased. Everyone has been so helpful from the receptionist to my advisor. Alum: Attending Anoka Ramsey Community College was excellent! Through taking a variety of electives both on-campus and online, I discovered that the faculty radiate with excellence in their academic areas. Despite the diverse differences between studying math, psychology, and the arts, I was impressed by the skill and competence of the faculty in each class. My statistics professor, my educational psychology professor, my theater professor, and my music professors all exceeded at understanding and transmitting excitement for the content of their coursework. The campus is gorgeous and immaculate. In the music wing, two levels of recently added practice rooms overlooking the Mississippi River. Sophomore: An incredible community! When I graduated high school, I worried I would dislike college just as much but was proven wrong. Although location and food aren't much to talk about, the place offers a lot. Most professors have been so supportive, keeping my attention in class (check "Rate My Professors" tho). Although lectures are inescapable, there are other modes of teaching. There are plenty of support systems and activities around campus—shown on the bulletin boards and school app. It's a great place whether or not you know what you want to pursue and a good chance you'll find something beneficial here. Besides a great place to make connections and explore degree fields, there's plenty of free stuff offered throughout the semester (food, school merch, and raffles). Plus, NHCC works to foster diversity. Of course, there are ups and downs, but making sure to use the necessary resources, putting in the work, and getting involved is vital! Senior: My experience at Walden has, hands down been amazing! They gave me hope and made me feel that my second chance was possible. The flexibility and work- life balance seems to work very well! I appreciate the faculty for always responding promptly no matter the circumstances! Although online learning requires self discipline, professors provide an ample amount of resources to guide you along the way, even during challenging courses. I always appreciate the feedback from each instructor as it continues to benefit me as I work towards completing my BA in health sciences. Some online courses aren’t as easy to use or navigate. Walden provides a very straight-forward online portal for all sources needed including Blackboard. Also, beneficiary to those that may struggle a little bit, they provide an online tutoring service working around your schedule for all subjects. Freshman: All my freshman courses were taken online this semester. Diversity was definitely there. No athletics teams however they do have a gym included in tuition. Professors were alright some did not understand the difficulty of distance learning but some did. No dorms on campus and the "student" housing is not a place you want to be. Cops called all hours of the night and illegal activity along with hoods. This is why safety and security could do better. The housing is not for students it is for low-income parents or young adults even some elders. The campus is average, with tons of study spaces, tons of majors and programs, and even engaging professors and staff. The party scene is not there, it is a community college. The area is quite local tons of food, gas stations, and even local mom and pop shops downtown. Campus food was not available due to Covid-19. Student life was not at all interactive or engaging. Junior: Overall, the experience has been amazing. I have been able to fit more credits in than I ever thought I would be able to. They offer half semester classes in order to allow students to be full time whilst not having to carry so much on their plate. It is kind of like being a half time student with full time credits and opportunities. The thing I don't like about these classes is that they move very quickly and have a lot of course work packed into them. The online professors are amazing and very helpful. You may not think that you will be retaining the knowledge or not getting everything out of it that you need; however, I believe that you get more than you bargain for.
