Junior: I love my experience at Skidmore. My first year, I was able to take a variety of classes in different departments to figure out where I felt most at home, and many of our classes are interdisciplinary. It is easy and encouraged to have multiple majors/minors, and most professors are amazing! They truly are a great resource that I was not expecting to have, especially coming from a bigger high school. I have been fortunate to hold several campus jobs, including being a tour guide, tutor, and RA. Senior: I absolutely love RIT! Although primarily a tech school, there are so many unique people and personalities that attend, proving that everybody will find their people here, no matter who you are. Additionally, there are so many programs to choose from, and many have notable alum within the department. For example, our College of Art and Design is best known for their successful photography programs and film and animation. There are so many ways to get involved in clubs and organizations! From athletics to greek life, gaming clubs, and many more. There is something for everybody. Also, RIT's co-op program makes it one of the best options for students who are career-driven. Having the opportunity to partake in 2 (or more) paid internships while still in college helps pave the way for the future and helps them put their best foot forward when looking for a job post-grad. Alum: Fordham as a Biology major is a very different experience than that of the Business School, they did prepare us well in terms of courses required to apply to graduate medical programs. However, I recall begging professors to open more class sections for the most basic courses (human anatomy and phys) required for schools. They underestimated how many students needed to complete these basic science courses in order to be eligible for graduate programs. Further, they proposed we take Biology and Chemistry at the same time our first year so we “required less overall credits to graduate.” With labs and other courses, I ended up having way more than the amount of credits required anyways, thus negating the appeal of taking both at the same time in the first place. It was a “weeding out” process. When I asked for help, my advisor stated I was “not serious enough to pursue medicine,” but I sought out my own advisor, and here I am now! En route to PA school.... Alum: CUNY Hunter College was great for me, as someone who went to college right out of high school but wasn't yet sure of what I wanted to major in. All of my professors were phenomenal and I was able to get a good overview of what options I had in the first two years; I did not declare a major until the summer before my Junior year. It's a commuter school so it's easy to not get too involved with the culture but even so, in most majors you'll be taking a lot of classes with the same people, so it's still not difficult to get to know people. Freshman: After finishing my first year as a freshman, I'd say that St. John's University is a top level amazing school. The environment of campus is perfect, you have a wide open great lawn surrounded by buildings of all varieties. HUGE diversity, you get to meet people from all over the country! Even though St. John's is a catholic school, they have a church is for all religions. Residence Halls are set in a village like area, all having different names and surrounding locations like the Montigoris Dining Hall and Public Safety. Dorms in the residence halls have their own setup, whether it's a suite or traditional, double room or single room. Speaking of Public Safety, I feel safe being on campus. They have guards at each gate and are on the scene if something goes down. Food at the dining hall is amazing, they have a different varieties of food, such like Grill and Hibachi. Senior: I have had an amazing experience at Daemen throughout my past 3.5 years here. The professors are excellent in some departments, while others could not care less. The clubs and student activities are lower than average universities due to the more academics driven atmosphere. Becoming involved on campus is an easy process with over 54 clubs and organizations. There are also some leadership positions available. Many offices on campus want to support you in whatever you need. Graduate Student: Saint rose is a pretty good school depending on your program! If you're business (finance/accounting/marketing), you'll definitely have so much flexibility in scheduling and courses! The professors are super helpful when it comes to course work and other personal matters. Some professors however are strict and pretty mean, but you'll fine that anywhere! There's always events on campus and people around, so the campus is super lively. The diversity isn't the best (it's semi better than other colleges), but in recent years has definitely gotten better! Overall I would recommend saint rose, there's always something to do on campus, people to meet and there's a whole array of clubs and committees to join. The dining is decent, but the food places on campus are definitely great! Highly recommend Camelot Room and Midnight Eats! Junior: LIU Post is a great school with a gorgeous campus. They did an especially great job in keeping all students and faculty safe during the COVID-19 pandemic and that really made me feel good to be a student there. Professors are all qualified and know their stuff, too. There is never a dull moment and they do a great job at creating a comfortable social setting as well. Only thing I would change is the faculty that works in the Promise Office. They are not always the most helpful and tend to make students feel like they need to fend for themselves in order to do things for themselves like building a schedule. Alum: For me, Purchase was an excellent school in an excellent location. Although I could have attended a Big City college, they beckoned, Purchase was the right choice for me. College is stressful enough without the stresses of Big City living while on a very limited budget. Don't get me wrong, nothing & nowhere is perfect. But the quasi-suburban/rural location worked for me. Education wise, professor wise, well, I was Top 5% all my classes & courses. I'm not sure would have happened elsewhere. Alum: I graduated here in 2018. I met one of my best friends there. The classes are small, the library has what you need. The food was great, I thought. There was more campus life than it seems, you just have to look for it. The campus is beautiful, and the dorms were great, since they renovated them while I was there. If you like small classes, they are great, and the professors are really helpful. If you have learning and/or physical disabilities like me then they have a great program for that! They have two gyms, (one for sports and the other for regular exercise) and they are both great. They have two chapels and a cemetery for the nuns that used to run the college. Junior: Excelsior has been a great option for online learning. A lot of students are probably apprehensive about taking online classes, but Excelsior has made it a very viable option for the working student. There is plenty of opportunity to complete coursework and interact with peers and your teachers, as structure and pace is not lacking. Both staff and students remain very positive support systems during the learning journey with much to contribute to the learning experience.
