Junior: NC State is not just a school with great academics, campus, and people, but instead a wildly diverse cosmopolitan community. At State there is truly something for everyone. For those who don’t know or have never visited campus, State is located close to Downtown Raleigh. Students enjoy its busy commercial areas as well as the abundance of tech companies, government departments, and awesome parks. On the weekends, friends and myself enjoy the nightlife of Raleigh and the rest of the Triangle. Besides the sense of place that NC State provides, the faculty is remarkable. Freshman: My first semester at SBCC I took 2 online courses and 2 in-person courses. I really liked how simple the online courses were. I never had trouble turning in online assignments, contacting teachers, or asking for help. I also enjoyed how much the teachers cared even though we weren't seeing each other on a daily basis. Sophomore: After I graduated high school I went straight to college, Mt. SAC. My freshman year was a little difficult to adjust to because of the way the class schedules are. Although primarily a tech school, there are so many unique people and personalities that attend, proving that everybody will find their people here, no matter who you are. Additionally, there are so many programs to choose from, and many have notable alum within the department. Junior: I love Santa Rosa Junior College! Niche User: Northwest Vista is an incredible college with a beautiful campus. There are some really incredible professors employed at Northwest Vista College. Sophomore: The Catholic University of America is an amazing school! It offers a great academic experience with its small class sizes and experienced professors. The campus is beautiful and the university does a wonderful job fostering community among the students and helping everyone achieve their full potential. With the location in DC, there are many opportunities for students to have fun off campus as well as find great opportunities for internships and other academic pursuits. My only complaint is the food service. However, the university is currently constructing a new dining hall so the students have high hopes for improvement. Sophomore: I like the option for Occupational Endorsements as opposed to an Associate’s, I was able to get specialized in Sustainable Energy while working toward my Bachelor’s. Many programs have funding (and travel funding!) available. Online courses can be less expensive and flexible to travel or live/study remotely during the cold winter months in the Fall semester. While this is primarily a school that has a lot of graduate students, there are so many opportunities for undergraduate research in Alaska. The university is small, so it is important to establish good connections with one or two faculty. Staff are always available and interested to help. The Student Health and Counseling Center has been very important to my educational journey as a first generation student. If I could change anything it would be the campus design, since departments are physically separated from each other. Sophomore: Overall I liked QCC. They have lots of free programs to help students in STEM. There are opportunities for undergraduate research, on campus jobs, and free tutoring. Some clubs are good like the robotics club, but some are also bad. We had play with 4 puppies, pizza, and a carnival like event during a club once. The social life is what you make of it. QCC really helps to create a community and the campus is beautiful. I enjoyed most of my time in college and can’t wait to graduate debt free! Some advice - take classes at QCC while in high school or use CLEP and AP exams. You can accelerate your degree and save money or time. Also, summer STEM classes have their tuition waived for one class. Whichever CUNY you choose to go to, remember that you can always “epermit” a class at another CUNY. Junior: I have a few credits to finish up for my associate degree. So far my experiences have been very positive. The Registered Nurse Program at MATC has been what I expected. I’m sure that the networking courses get into more intense material, but networking isn’t my favorite thing. The Support program does make me want to continue my education in nursing. I think that’s a positive. When I started back at MATC, it was difficult because I’d been out of school for something like 13 years.
