Junior: As a Columbia University student, I am proud of myself and I feel very lucky. The school's name alone boasts prestige and prominence, as so many Nobel Prize winners, presidents, and successful businesspeople hail from the university. To be a part of this community, one that fosters community support as well as a push to strive for self improvement and global impact, has been incredibly motivating and exhilarating for me. Sophomore: Hopkins is great! There's always something to do - lots of student organisations, interesting classes, events, parties and places to go to in Baltimore. Labs are very open to taking on undergraduate research assistants. It is more of a struggle narrowing down potential activities to what I can manage than to find things to fill my time. Classes are interesting and a wide range is available. However, some of them are definitely challenging and take up quite a lot of time! It is also difficult to get and maintain a high GPA in most classes because everyone is super smart. Food options are not bad, it varies from time to time and depends on which dining hall but I'm mostly happy with it, and Baltimore has great food options. Dorms are also relatively clean and have good facilities. A disadvantage about Hopkins is the safety around campus, it is mostly safe but sometimes there are robberies or burglaries near campus.... Freshman: This college has a fun and lively campus with copious amounts of clubs, athletic opportunities, and areas to explore. The student body contains some of the kindest people I've ever met. The campus itself is very accessible for people with disabilities, and the bus system is perfect for whether you are traveling on or off campus. there's a huge promotion of wellness all across campus, making the environment feel very hospitable. In terms of my major, graphic design, all of the professors I've had are some of the most brilliant artists I've ever met. My peers and I all agree that we have learned such a large amount of new art concepts in what feels like a brief amount of time. Freshman: My experience at Virginia Tech has been outstanding! I finished high school one semester early and earned credit for one semester's worth of college through my local community college. My coursework has been tough but I have persevered with the help of my professors. In addition, the campus is beautiful and the students are friendly. I have enjoyed the campus gym, attended career fairs, played intramural sports, gone on a retreat out of state and even participated in a Business Club Pitch Contest that was way outside of my comfort zone. Failure is not an option- I will succeed! I am from Southeast Newport News, where I've seen too many people make decisions that negatively impact their lives. The housing crisis for upperclassmen needs to change. I would love for more on campus housing to be available for upperclassmen. Freshman: The student life here is amazing, and it's clear the university wants its students to feel comfortable on campus. TA's and professors have been mostly receptive to emails and eager to help out when needed. The location and surrounding resources are valuable and easy to take advantage of as a student. I wish professors were better equipped to use canvas or some other teaching website. Also, there should be a standardized attendance app or website that is used by all teachers rather than having to download two or three separate applications in a semester depending on which professors you have. Niche User: Northwest Vista is an incredible college with a beautiful campus. There are some really incredible professors employed at Northwest Vista College. In particular, Robert DiGiovanni was an excellent professor who made himself available by phone via call or text! He had excellent pre-recorded videos prior (many years prior) to covid. His methodologies of working through problems were superb. I think that he is reflective of most of the professors I had at Northwest Vista College. The great thing about Northwest Vista college is that it is one of five other 2 year universities within the Alamo Colleges umbrella. This means that you have a massive selection of professors, as well as online options. The prices of courses within the Alamo Colleges system are outstanding. Sophomore: Lee College is a cheap and easy way to get a college education. For the price, you get a pretty good education. Professors are there to help you, they understand when situations occur and are willing to work with you. Email and keep in contact with your professors! It's a well known community college for a reason. The professors are good at what they do, some are less communicative or involved than others. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because some classes are very straightforward and don't need lots of involvement. Every professor I've had is willing to work with you, keeps in contact, and responds to emails within a day. The courses have the same rigor as other colleges and even some universities. Alum: I graduated from RCC in 2018, with an associates in psychology and an associates in business. During my time there, I was the Diversity Coordinator in student government, the President of the Rainbow Club, and I worked in both the student services office and the library. Overall, I had an amazing experience. The professors were knowledgeable, the classes were engaging, and the advisors were incredibly helpful. I even met my husband at RCC! I would highly recommend RCC for anybody who is looking to take core classes (less expensive than university), and they make transferring to an eligible 4-year-university easy, and will help you along the way.... Sophomore: Howard Payne is a very small university that values southern hospitality, its surrounding community, and Gods true calling. There are lots of fun activities and organizations available to join on campus! Some of which include social groups, sports teams, and intramural! There are beautiful chapel service every Wednesday and many opportunities available for students when seeking future jobs (many alumni are very involved in current student affairs and help with internships). The professors on campus make it their goal to get to know each and every student. They plan to set each student up for the most success possible. There are numerous available scholarships through the university to help with costs and they find ways to help each and every student. Overall it is a wonderful campus and an extremely friendly environment. I have loved my experience so far and would trade it for any other university.
