Alum: Graduated in 2011, was the best college experience I could have hoped for! Made lifelong friends and discovered passion for history. I interned at Colonial Williamsburg and had some amazing public history courses where we traveled to historic sites and discussed primary sourced (and ate bbq!). Such a perfect campus size, it felt larger than other liberal arts schools but still super safe. I walked home alone at 3 am often. Was not part of the party scene, but was super social and my freshman dorm was where I made most of my friends. If I had one thing the criticize it would be support in finding a job post-graduation (this may have changed in the 10+ yrs since graduation). You have to be proactive about using the career center. Senior: I transferred into Liberty University as a junior, I was excited to be on a campus that loved Jesus. I have been challenged by the coursework, professionally developed through leadership programs, and grown deeply in love with Jesus. As a behavioral sciences and religion major, the classes are practical and applicable to the field that I am going in. My professors have a wealth of knowledge in their areas and care deeply about their students. The classes are not insanely difficult, but the material is challenging and insightful. There is opportunity to be mentored and developed holistically as a student and as a leader through programs such as residential assistant and others. While Liberty is amazing, I would desire to see more leniency in their approach to rules. Liberty can be conservative on things like dress code and I think they should not have a say in certain things. Aside from that, Liberty is incredible and I would recommend the school for anyone!... Senior: Don't get me wrong, Roanoke has its downfalls— many of the residential halls drastically need to be redone, and communication between offices is lacking. HOWEVER, going to college here is the best decision I could've made. Most of the professors and staff members are excellent. They love what they do and genuinely care about the students. The classes are definitely challenging but are obtainable with hard work. The people are great! I've met so many people from so many different walks of life at this school. Greek life is a huge part of campus and you can usually find an event happening Wednesday to Sunday each week, but no one cares if you're a member or not. Junior: So far everything has been great! I love how they offer so much for the students to keep them busy with groups and extra activities, volunteer opportunities, programs to help with leadership growth, there is something for everyone! Sophomore: There are so many wonderful things about RMC, the small school feel, friendly students, many different clubs and activities on campus, and access to professors and research opportunities. Ashland is a safe town and you can walk for food or just to check out the holiday decorations or small shops nearby. I gave four stars instead of five for two reason. One that is consistently mentioned here is the food. I hope that when the contract is up with the current company, the college changes many things about dining. There is a lack of lower priced options in dining plans for on campus students, some have cars and prefer to only eat on campus about half the time. Second, there were times last year I felt overwhelmed by work. I was working sometimes almost constantly, there was no work-life balance. I think/hope the message was received by admin and because I think this year is a lot better. Overall, a great school, great financial aid, you’ll be glad if you decide to come here!... Freshman: I enjoyed Hampton! One of the things I liked about Hampton would be the scenery, it is a beautiful clean campus. Another thing I liked about Hampton would be how efficient the staff was, they are very quick with their work and almost always have an answer to which they deliver in a clear concise manner. I also liked the social scene as there were always activities and clubs I could participate in no matter the time. With all the things I did like there are things I would like to change. One of the things I would like to change would be the lunchroom food, the food is not the best and they did have good food Fall semester of 2022. Another thing I would like to see change would be the cleanliness of the dorms, more so the dorm I stayed in which was Harkness Hall. The dorm is not unsanitary however there are times when it comes close to reaching that point. Senior: As a Christian student, I want everything I do to glorify God. While I've been attending Liberty Online, everyone here has been key in encouraging me in that. From my professors who understand my needs, to the online campus shepherds who pray for me, right down to the admissions team who agreed with me about praying for God's will in where and if I should continue my college education. I think what you get out of any class, especially online, depends on the effort you put in, but my professors have made an effort to give me good feedback and help make it easier for me to realize my potential. A note for future students: Don't take their resources for granted. Explore the student dashboard! The writing center, the Jerry Falwell library, so much more is available to online students than I realized in my first year. But most importantly, go to the university that God's calling you to. Sophomore: Thus far experience at ODU has been great! And I am truly learning a lot about myself and the different things that interest me within academics. My online experience has also been challenging yet manageable and my professors have been very supportive and helpful with anything that I want to know or need assistance with. I am currently active duty military and ODU is very military friendly as well. One of my favorite things about going to ODU is the fact that despite me being an online student, I still have full access to the main campus in Norfolk, which is absolutely amazing! Hopefully, if everything goes well I plan on obtaining my bachelors degree at ODU as well as my Master’s Degree. Right now I am currently taking an Art class and a math class for the summer and even though the classes just began I’m finding that I am enjoying my art class more than I expected which brings me back to the overall positive experience that I am having at ODU by finding new things that interest me....
