Freshman: I enjoyed most courses and classes, however, some key information was left out of SDV 100, especially regarding where assignments could be located; such as not all assignments will appear on your dashboard. I missed a few early assignments because of this. Most teachers were/are wonderful, however, some showed no interest in their subject or students. For example, canceling classes consistently to the point where more classes were canceled than not. Some teachers didn't even hold lectures or offer help/remediation. Freshman: Overall, my experience with NOVA has been positive. I appreciated the range of courses and programs offered, which allowed me to explore different areas of study and find my academic interests. The professors at NOVA were knowledgeable and approachable, always willing to provide guidance and support. There were ample resources available for students, such as the library and computer labs. However, there are a few areas where I would like to see some changes. I believe NOVA could benefit from enhancing its career services and internship opportunities for students. Freshman: Blue Ridge is a great community college, and I wish more people would attend! not only do you save a ton of money by attending a community college for associates degrees and especially before transferring to another college, blue ridge offers classes that those bigger 4-years don't. like most of their non-credit classes; CDL, welding, phlebotomy. Blue Ridge is also a safer campus than most major 4-year schools. keep in mind that the campus isn't as big, but its also isn't situated in the middle of a city. they have round-the-clock security, and on top of that blue ridge is right next to a police academy. the professors aren't just here to cash a check, they genuinely care about their students and want them to do well. teachers are always very accommodating about meeting with students and many offer long office hours, where students are encouraged to pop in if they have any questions or just want to talk. Sophomore: Virginia Western Community College provided me with all the tools necessary to navigate my own way through college. With Western's financial aid programs, I was able to support myself throughout my Associate's degree. Western's support services are also incredibly helpful and fast. I hardly had to wait more than two hours to receive help when needed. The professors are super supportive and quick to respond. This is very unlike larger colleges where finding assistance is rather difficult and attempting to talk to your professor is nearly impossible (especially in online classes). There are so many great aspects about Western -- the campus, effort put into student life, on-campus amenities, course flexibility, affordability, support -- I would suggest them to anyone entering college.
