Other: Currently I am enrolled for the winter term that begins Jan 8th. Im a 40yr old female, starting over “in life” and am grateful for the opportunity to broaden my education. For the past 19 years I’ve made a living as a bartender and thoroughly enjoyed the work up until 2021 and facing a traumatic encounter. The resources available as well as my initial enrollment and class registration was a process with probability of increasing my anxiety and panic. Thankfully the staff and advisors of UCC have been extremely helpful in guiding me along the way, being that everything is completed via portals and web based nowadays. A far cry from the more hands on and face to face interactions I am familiar with from my previous time spent at UCC approximately 20 years ago!! Not that I’m immune to change or technology, but my tendency to unintentionally over analyze and over worry about executing tasks correctly and efficiently has proven to be discouraging. Alum: Definitely do a campus tour first before you commit to a school, because this school. WOW. Caught my eye and I felt like I could see myself getting my degree here in four years. The campus itself is amazing, and is easily maneuverable if you find yourself late for class. Also a great place to go if you are from Hawaii. Many of my friends were from Hawaii and it just made easing into college way easier. I did not feel like I have left home at all. All the professors are great and they all have their own personalities which make classes all the more fun to attend. Sophomore: Portland Community College has such wonderful professors that really care about their students. Professors were kind, accommodating, and willing to listen to their students. Alum: I absolutely loved my experience at Central Oregon Community College. The faculty is incredible and the tuition is some of the lowest in the state, which is incredibly helpful because Bend's cost of living is quite high. I graduated with an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree, which was readily accepted at Oregon State University when I applied as a transfer student. My favorite professors were Christopher Hazlett and Fleur Prade, who both had unique personalities that they wove into their instruction. Though my personal review of the college is 5 out of 5 stars, I have concerns with the overall ADA accessibility of the campus. Classes in Grandview and Ochoco Hall are extremely difficult to reach for those with mobility limitations. Alum: I graduated from RCC in 2018, with an associates in psychology and an associates in business. During my time there, I was the Diversity Coordinator in student government, the President of the Rainbow Club, and I worked in both the student services office and the library. Overall, I had an amazing experience. The professors were knowledgeable, the classes were engaging, and the advisors were incredibly helpful. I even met my husband at RCC! I would highly recommend RCC for anybody who is looking to take core classes (less expensive than university), and they make transferring to an eligible 4-year-university easy, and will help you along the way.... Junior: The college is great for helping people pursue different career options. You don't have to know what you are planning to do for the future right away. The course planners invest time in making sure that you are comfortable and are able to receive all the help you can get. This school also has options for students that have financial need, have a disability, tutoring, and other needs. CCC also has many extracurricular programs for students to participate in. I found these to be a great option for kids who like to involve themselves within the school. I will also say that the dorms and housing are quite nice. Sophomore: I have really enjoyed my time at Chemeketa. I have taken both in-person and online classes, and both have been very well organized and the teachers have been excellent in their fields. Community college gets a lot of flack, but I feel like I made a really smart choice going here first, exploring my options, and getting my associate's at a much lower price. The advisors, tutors, and other admin staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and want to see you succeed. Most of my experience so far has been at the Yamhill Valley Campus, which has wonderful lighting, technology access, and studying areas. I highly recommend attending Chemeketa if you are considering post-secondary education, whether that be just a few classes or working toward a graduate degree. I want to give a special shout out to my favorite teacher there: Keely Baca!
