Junior: Applying to Smith last-minute was absolutely the best decision I ever made. I have had access to academic and research opportunities equal to my friends at Ivy League institutions, but with the additional benefits of a small student to faculty ratio (more accessible 1 on 1 mentorship). It feels so inspiring to attend an HWC where thousands of powerful, historical women have been educated before me. Smith is a motivated and focused environment for people who love to learn. I enjoy the social scene because it caters to my preferences; I recognize almost everyone on campus, but still get to know new people every day. There are parties (lessened by COVID) but UMASS and the other colleges are easily accessed by bus. Northampton is an amazing town with a cozy northeastern feel. Get ready for some AMAZING (but expensive) coffee shops. The housing system is so unique and offers a sorority-like feel to those who choose to engage (also easy to opt out). Sophomore: I love UMass! The campus is gorgeous and the school of business is excellent. There is nothing quite like the dining hall. There are lots of student resources for academics and academic achievement. Anything you could ask for, you can find on campus. However, the Amherst area off campus is also delightful. There are lots of local stores and resources like Target, Walmart, Staples, and Dunkin'. You can find things you need on campus at the school store. Or you can find lots of coffee on campus as there's a Starbucks, People's Organic Coffee, and Argo tea. All students are kind and welcoming. There's so many ways to get involved on campus with clubs, athletics, or greek life. The only thing I would advise about Varsity athletics is that the program is run poorly and the athletic directors show minimal care for corrupt activity of some of the coaches, especially the field hockey coach. Freshman: I absolutely love attending Holy Cross. As a rising sophomore, I have very few complaints. I had a great experience with my random roommate, the room was very spacious and clean when moving in, and the building had many relaxing/study spaces, as well as a laundry room and kitchen. As for the campus itself, it is very hilly which can get tiring but is an absolutely stunning campus to walk around, and the longest walk is a total of 10 minutes. The food was wonderful with many options - a cafe in the science building with the best sandwiches, a coffee shop adjacent to a lobby shop filled with medicine, toiletries, food, and drinks, and of course Kimball - main meals, as well as lower kimball with sushi and Mexican food daily. I have had nothing but positive experiences with the academics, and the school provides so many incredible community service opportunities that are so unique and life changing. Freshman: I love Berklee. It's definitely not for everybody, though. The classes are hard, and if you have the right combination of professors it's a LOT of work. It's extremely, EXTREMELY expensive. It doesn't offer a lot of financial resources for international students even though it's probably 40% international. A large amount of people who go here are just children of rich parents who got accepted and don't have anything better to do. But when it's great, it's great. You could go to amazing free performances every night of the week. If you have the right professors, there is everything to learn in your niche and then some. There is a team of career advisors that have endless resources for you. I have made the best and most like minded friends of my life, and I would trade my one semester here so far for nothing. Alum: I knew that I wanted to attend a small liberal arts school, especially one that was LGBTQ+-friendly and would be safe for me as a trans student. I found Hampshire through CTCL and when I visited campus as a junior, I fell in love with the rural, woodsy campus. I know that this school isn't right for everyone - the built-in structure is limited, and you're mostly on your own to figure out what needs to get done - but I knew what I was getting into and that experience helped me massively in learning how to advocate for myself and ask for help. Some people feel isolated in such a small student body, but I discovered my 'found family' here and it was fairly easy for me to make friends who understood my identity and respected me. I'd say the biggest thing I gained from my Hampshire education was confidence; I didn't know how much I was capable of as a teenager, but now having completed the Div III project, I get to go forth into the world knowing I'm capable of writing a book in a year!... Freshman: As I'm finishing up my first semester of Bridgewater State, I have to say I've found myself to be very comfortable in this community. I'm double majoring in elementary education and sociology with an education concentration and all of my courses thus far have been very interesting and engaging. This university is perfect for future educators looking to get their higher education at a good price within a program that has been doing this for as long as they've been open. The campus is beautiful through any weather and I've found myself a great friend group that has been so supportive and made my experience that much better. The food can sometimes be subpar, but I would recommend Tillinghast Hall and Bears Den the most because of all of their healthy and not so healthy options. I can see myself here for my entire education time (undergraduate and graduate) and I hope that I'll be able to say these same thought plus more once I've gone through semester that are to come in the future!... Alum: I attended Simon's Rock from 2008-2012. My academic experience was excellent, with an unparalleled level of personalized attention from faculty; seven of my courses were one-on-one tutorials. The coursework was demanding— by the time I was writing my senior thesis, I was working over 95 hours a week—but deeply intellectually fulfilling. Simon's Rock was also enormously socially enriching for me. It's where I met my husband and formed all of my closest friendships. I loved the beautiful and rural setting of the campus. However, there was very little in the way of career services, with the expectation that most students will attend graduate school. I observed that there were inadequate supports for students struggling with mental health/substance use, which was especially concerning given that the majority were legal minors.
