Sophomore: St. Philip’s is an amazing college. With its roots, as a historically black and hispanic college, they make all students feel welcomed and appreciated. As a veteran, I was nervous to step foot on a college campus as I was just familiar with my ship-life in the Navy. Although, with their incredible veteran advisors, amongst other resources, my education experience has been nothing but phenomenal. Graduate Student: I had a pretty good experience here! There were some teachers within the nursing program who acted like they didn’t care, but there were far more who did! They helped motivate me and even talked me off the ledge when I was thinking about quitting! In my Final semester, I didn’t have any financial aid to pay my tuition, but with the help of my advisor and financial aid, which one of my instructors told me to do, I was able to find and apply for a scholarship and finish my degree! I take loved the fact that I didn’t have to enroll myself in my classes also, so I never had to guess on what to take, even before I was in my program! They took great care of me. Sophomore: The Dental Hygiene Degree Program is the main reason I chose LIT as my college. As a first year student, I have completed Orofacial Anatomy, Instrumentation, Preventive Care and Dental Radiology. These classes alone have helped me identify the head and neck anatomy and record any atypical findings, show me how to properly use instruments, educate my patients about proper care and take acceptable radiographs. I really enjoy being in the program. This curriculum will prepare and teach me the skills for the Dental Hygiene National Board Exam and the Clinical Regional Exam. I also chose LIT because of their offering of free classes and reduced tuition due to COVID-19. LIT has been one of the few colleges that care about their students’ health, wellbeing, and success. They offer tutoring sessions and dual credit classes for future undergraduate students planning to attend LIT. Alum: I spent two semesters at Tarrant County College Northwest Campus to get my Associates of Science. My instructors were almost all excellent, very understanding, and helpful, with the exception of a single online course I took (it was essentially a weekly assigned reading and essay with minimal teacher interaction). There are abundant resources on campus for students, with tutoring and dedicated help centers separated by subject. The extracurriculars were also fun. I got involved in the school's math club, music club, and philosophy club (Pi club, NW Music Association, and Plato's cave). It being a community college, the clubs were relatively small (5-10 people), which made it feel much more personal. The campus also has a gym and pool that are free to use, which was VERY awesome. The cafeteria is a bit lacking, being a Subway and some vending machines, so definitely bring a lunch. Sophomore: Lee College is a cheap and easy way to get a college education. For the price, you get a pretty good education. Professors are there to help you, they understand when situations occur and are willing to work with you. Email and keep in contact with your professors! It's a well known community college for a reason. The professors are good at what they do, some are less communicative or involved than others. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because some classes are very straightforward and don't need lots of involvement. Every professor I've had is willing to work with you, keeps in contact, and responds to emails within a day. The courses have the same rigor as other colleges and even some universities. Freshman: I recently got accepted to start my college career, although I had started college before and didn’t finish before joint the Army, and I’m trying to get my AAS in Cybersecurity. I plan to transfer to a four year college when I graduate CTC. I’m currently taking two classes online, one of which is self paced. But I do have two more classes starting on June 5th, then I will be full time. The staff at CTC has been amazingly supportive and helpful in my journey. My teachers are extremely patient with my work and I can definitely tell that they’re passionate about their jobs because of all of the help my fellow classmates and I receive. If I could change something about the way CTC works, what would that be? Honestly, nothing! I would recommend this college to anyone, especially someone who is just starting out. Graduate Student: Grayson College is a great starter for new college students. The campus is beautiful, small, and easily navigated. The professors were caring, supportive, and involved to help students succeed. There is a great library with a writing center to help students improve their writing skills and essays for any course. The bookstore is small, but stocked with everything a student would need. Admissions, financial aid, and the career coaches knew their roles and responsibilities which made them able to help students without confusion and stress. Also want to note that there is a Veteran's lounge for service members and their dependents. It is a small, but welcoming area that allows students to print, use computers, and study. To point out the missing star, the cafeteria and student life were not highly frequented by myself. Therefore to approve a 5-star rating without proper opinions on those services is not helpful.
