Senior: I absolutely love RIT! Although primarily a tech school, there are so many unique people and personalities that attend, proving that everybody will find their people here, no matter who you are. Additionally, there are so many programs to choose from, and many have notable alum within the department. For example, our College of Art and Design is best known for their successful photography programs and film and animation. There are so many ways to get involved in clubs and organizations! From athletics to greek life, gaming clubs, and many more. There is something for everybody. Also, RIT's co-op program makes it one of the best options for students who are career-driven. Having the opportunity to partake in 2 (or more) paid internships while still in college helps pave the way for the future and helps them put their best foot forward when looking for a job post-grad. Alum: There are so many opportunities for growth, wonderful and knowledgeable professors, a great sense of community, and exceptional facilities and resources. The Science Tutorial was my best resource for improving my grades. All profs offered office hrs and ensured their students do well. WCC offers refunds on dropped classes before a certain date. Take advantage if the class or professor doesn’t align with them. Take time to read testimonials of your professors before signing up for their class. I am still in contact with many of my professors and they have given me support and encouragement through my current career. It’s a great feeling to know they still want to see you succeed even after you leave the classroom. Diversity on campus is lively! WCC is a large commuter school including HS grads, transfers, and grad students. Pool offered open swim hrs which were fun to go to in between classes. Student life is what you make of it. Freshman: The classes are fairly easy even being online. I was given very helpful direction from teachers who answered within five minutes. Someone was always available ifI had a question or needed help. I was intimidated at first about being online because I did not want to be too disconnected, but the teachers do a great job at keeping you connected and immersed despite being online. there were a lot of extra educational resources and tutoring services offered registration was easy making my schedule was made very easy by my advisor. Alum: I liked majority of my teachers. They were all very helpful and eager to assist when needed. I also like the family like culture there, I met some of my best friends at SUNY Poly. It was very easy to schedule classes and check grades with everything online. It was easy to navigate. I was a part of a club and always felt included for the events. I was a business major and learned a lot about business from my time there. The dorms were nice and convenient to the main campus. I always felt safe and never in harms way. There were a lot of campus events to help people make friends and have fun. It is a smaller school so you get to know just about everyone on the campus. Everyone got along for the most part. The teachers took part in the activities and assisted when needed. I would definitely recommend SUNY Poly to a graduating senior. Alum: I had a really good first semester at Nassau Community College but unfortunately, I didn't get to experience my full year at Nassau Community College as the pandemic had hit and everything was shifted to online. Most of my professors that I had were very accommodating and patient to the transition. My only complaint would be that the advisors can sometimes be rude and not in the slightest bit helpful. I have one advisor that help me with a specific issue and basically told me to go to her for any help that I needed but then turned her back on me after I came to her in regards to another issue that had to do with my financial aid. Freshman: I'm an incoming Freshman at Hudson Valley Community College, starting later this month. I visited the school out of curiosity for their new Welding Technologies associate degree program. I found the campus and all the services offered to be great. The Welding lab, including the Virtual Welding equipment was excellent and well set up. By the end of my visit, I knew that I wanted to attend this school and I applied immediately. I will be able to really increase my welding skills and be better prepared for my career. The college made the application and registration process very easy, with most things taken care of online or by email. This helped tremendously since I have a full-time job and wasn't able to visit or call the school during my workday. Once I start my classes I'll change my working hours to part time so that I can both focus on my studies and take part in some of the campus activities. I am very excited to begin!... Freshman: Staff, very welcoming, friendly that sort of deal. Campus is pretty easy to navigate, feels like walking 2-3 neighborhood blocks. All the professors I dealt with were super approachable, reasonable with deadlines, and they were really cool to talk to. You should definitely explore the local area in your free time and make friends with upperclassmen so that they can show you around. Loads of activities going around campus, community movie nights, sports games, sledding in winter to name a few. The hot food is GREAT 95% of the time but they have loads of other options too so you'll too disapointed in your dinner. Sandwich station? Life saver on those nights and just a good lunch in general. Our classmen are really friendly so if you ever feel lonely look around for a group and ask to join in to whatever they're doing. They'd love to accommodate you. Junior: Even though the past year has been tough because of COVID restrictions, I have had overall a pretty good time at West Point. The people here are mainly what makes it worth it--I've made friends that I know will last a lifetime. There are also endless opportunities (both during the semester and summer), especially if you want to get involved with research as an undergraduate. I have been able to publish my research in well known journals and conduct research alongside experts professors in the field I hope to pursue graduate school. The academics are not too hard, but it is very hit or miss in the core classes, because the instructors are randomly assigned and you don't get to choose. You might end up with someone not that great. However, in the upper division classes in the major, instructors are amazing and passionate about the subject.
