I spent all four years at OU as a full-time student. I was heavily involved in extracurriculars, from student government to intramural sports. Taking full advantage of both the friendly, family-based community and culture led to immense growth, leadership development, and life long memories. Athens, Ohio is truly one of the most magical and incredible places! The people, the community, the staff and faculty, and the students are passionate about their Bobcat family and each other. Senior: I am a returning student at The University of Akron. After earning an associate's degree in 2002, I joined the working world. After many, many years away from school, I decided to return for a bachelor's degree. I reached out to an advisor who was extremely helpful. She worked with me to make sure that all of my prior credit hours were applied to my new degree, and worked with me to create a school schedule that would accommodate my full time work schedule. She has been instrumental each semester to ensure that I stay on track to meet my graduation goals! Taking online classes has been much easier than one would expect. All of the professors and instructors are accessible through email, and will meet in person, or teleconference. Email responses are very quick. Alum: Visit before you attend, and you'll know if it is the right fit for you or not! Like any place outside of Heaven, it's not perfect and everyone there isn't a saint, but that honestly shouldn't be shocking news to anyone considering nowhere it perfect and full of saintly people. In general, people there are supportive and genuine. Not a beach university or fancy city school, but easy to drive to and located near Pittsburgh with tons to do in the suburbs, too. The downtown college town is improving, too. Yes, it is very Catholic, so you don't need to be passionately or even remotely Catholic to attend and receive a quality education but if you can't stand crucifixes, friars, or saints, you probably won't like the campus. Sophomore: Rhodes State is a great school! The class sizes are small, so the professors really get to know you. The tuition is affordable, and so far my Pell Grants have covered most of it. If you are planning to go to a four year school later, you’ll save a lot of money on Gen Ed courses if you start at Rhodes. Sophomore: I started attending classes late 2021 via my workplace benefits (that are now ending unfortunately). Having not had the best experiences with school previously, I was very apprehensive at first and being an older student (30s) wasn't sure of what to expect. Enrollment process was very simple and streamlined, same for the FAFSA process. I chose the accelerated terms since I do well with time management/fast paced environments. I have found all of my professors thus far to be extremely knowledgeable, helpful and passionate about their subjects of study. This helped foster my creativity and further motivate me to excel within my courses, something I had not experienced as a teen. I am now in my 2nd year of study, have a 4.0 and have made President's List. I owe that to the amazing faculty who has guided me in my studies and continuously motivated me to improve my work and try new approaches to my education. Freshman: Belmont college is a nice place to attend if you are considering transferring out. Belmont has given me an ability to revive my associates degree for very little money. The only reason why I didn’t get them 5 stars is because they have many classes that aren’t available. I’ve taken multiple classes that I didn’t want to take. Sophomore: Edison has been a great college from the moment I have arrived. The teachers have been incredibly helpful and even going out of their way to help students with issues, even if they do not correlate with the class. The class information is always laid out well and is easy to understand. There are amazing support provided for students including a free panty stocked with meals, snacks and even child products such as diapers. Sophomore: As a full time employee of Hampton City schools transportation department in Virginia that doesn’t leave me much time to go to school and sit in a traditional classroom Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) offers me courses online to work on getting my associates degree at my pace. I have taken 2 classes as semester since I began this journey and have maintained a 4.0 Gpa. Their instructors are very knowledgeable and available at any time through many communication options. The college offers lots of programs for everyone! I am a business management-human resource student who wants to transition from the wheel to a position within the transportation department. The only downside I have with them is that occasionally it’s hard to get through to the student assistance line especially as of lately since they have a flood of calls coming from students like myself who have lost funding through the free college education funding for union members....
