Alum: WCC is the best and most affordable college in the state of Michigan. Their programs are wide-ranging and extremely advanced, especially compared to other colleges. Very few colleges in the US the same amount effort into taking care of their students like at WCC. The resources they offer students are wide-ranging and easily accessible. The professors are usually extremely prefessional and highly experienced in their field of study. Of course there are teachers who are not, but the majority of teachers are good at their jobs. The in-person, virtual, and blended courses are somewhat lenient with due dates and missed tests; however, the online classes with no ZOOM component are brutal. There is basically zero interaction with the teachers except through email or the notes they leave on your graded assignments. If you're having a hard time or are falling behind the teacher isn't going to do much. Overall, WCC is a wonderful school with plenty of resources for students of all backgrounds.... Graduate Student: My experience at Gogebic was awesome it was funny because when I first got there I was afraid because I was 10 hours away from home and it was my first time leaving home so far for a while in 2019. I cried like a baby at first because I was in the middle of no where and I was just homesick. But as time pasted I loved Gogebic I met people that will be in my life forever, people I can call family Gogebic was really like my second home and I cried again when I graduated this past may I miss it so much. So many great people there and everybody cares I spent 3 years at Gogebic. I will recommend Gogebic to whoever want to feel like you at home you won't regret it I promise it's awesome!... Alum: Overall I had a great experience at Saginaw Valley State University. The campus always had events planned for students to mingle. My friends and I especially enjoyed going to hockey games and plays. The theater department did a wonderful job creating interesting sets and costumes. The advisors at SVSU were very helpful. It was always easy to get in to see someone when I had questions and the staff was eager to support the students. They made registering for classes stress-free. I also had many wonderful professors! They are really the heart of SVSU. They were supportive, and always willing to help support students during class and during office hours. My experience in college of education was a positive one. I feel that the professors really worked with us to prepare for teaching in the real world. They supported us in getting placements for student teaching and acted as a guide every step of the way. Junior: When I started at Northern Michigan University, I was a pre-med neuroscience major with the intention of going to medical school. My experience within this program was great, but unfortunately, Covid happened and it shifted both my perspective and plans. I switched into the school of business and it was not a good experience. I had multiple professors who seemed to not care about their students at all. I then switched into the construction management program and it has been nothing short of amazing. Each instructor cares whole-heartedly about the success of each individual student. The opportunities the CM program gives are endless and always up for grabs. Sophomore: Lansing Community College handled the pandemic really well. The transition to online learning was pretty smooth. Now two years into the pandemic, LCC is starting to offer more in person class options, which is awesome! Except they are also taking away online learning options, which made the college more accessible for more people. Class sizes are small and personal, it gives better opportunities to get to know your instructor. Even with online learning I made bonds with some of my instructors. Sophomore: My experience at Northwestern community college has been fantastic, the campus is small, and the people are super friendly. I have made a lot of friends, and I've learned a lot from my professors. The campus is beautiful, and the education, at least in the audio technology program, is excellent. My only criticism would be that the cafeteria food gets a little boring later in the semester, which wouldn't be a problem if we were not required to buy a meal plan, but as a first year student on campus, it is a requirement. Sophomore: I have been at KCC for 2 years so far, I did a full year of college my senior year of high school and earned my Emergency Medical Technician certificate before I even turned 18. Kellogg helped me navigate graduating and starting pre-reqs for nursing school. I love the staff and all of the professors at my school, they are helpful, outgoing, smart, and they teach you their knowledge better than you could ask for. I decided to go to Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) in the meantime to explore some electives and figure out what I wanted to go into. I took Photography, Intro to Piano, and Drawing I, all things I was interest in. I was self-taught in piano and my class really helped me learn the basics incredibly well. I am already very experienced in art, so I didn't expect to get much out of the introductory drawing class, but the professor was very good at challenging each student's personal level. I ended up learning plenty while still in a class for beginners. I only got into photography in my senior year of high school, but my photography class was super helpful in learning both the technical and creative aspects of photography. Alum: I attended Glen Oaks while I was still in high school and was even able to graduate with my associates before I graduated high school. In terms of academics Glen Oaks is a pretty standard community college but the staff is what made the experience so enjoyable. During my last year at GOCC I had hip surgery that put me on crutches for 6 weeks. I was very worried about being able to get to my class since it was on the opposite corner of campus then the parking lot but after talking with a professor they were able to get me a pass to be able to park at the entrance right next to my class. The only problem was that since it was the maintenance entrance there weren't any handicap doors. A few of the people who worked in the maintenance office saw me struggling one day and walked out to help me with the doors, after that there was almost always someone there to help me. Alum: I loved going here! They made the application process, payment, scholarships etc. very easy to deal with. The professors are helpful and willing to answer any questions you have. The campus is smaller but that makes it so much easier to make it to classes that are not in the same department. Food there is great, more of a quiet student life in my experience, but there are lots of extra curricular activities to get involved with if you want!
