Alum: I loved the strong student life. Because almost everyone lived on campus, there was always something happening. Student association events occurred on weekdays and weekends, there were concerts, athletics games, worship services, outdoor guided trips, and more. The spiritual life on campus was really genuine and made questioning and exploring my faith easy. The professors cared about your success and we learned from a lot of expert guest lecturers. I wish the internship experience had been more structured in my major, although I know other departments did better at placing interns. My study abroad experience through the college was exceptional. The food was vegetarian and had good variety until my last year, when management changed and it became much more monotonous. Graduate Student: I achieved an Office Assistant Certificate from BTC in 1998. The program included: basic math and English, written and oral communication, accounting, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and FrontPage, Internet research, typing and 10-key, resume writing and interviewing. I felt the program did an excellent job preparing me to start my career as an Administrative Assistant. The teachers presented clearly and answered questions. The facility was clean and functional. I used the library for research. The cafeteria was nice. BTC held Job Fairs and other events to help students get in front of potential employers before the end of the course. I was able to get a Pell Grant to cover tuition and books. College is a lot of work but this was a very hands-on and focused curriculum to get me prepared for work. Sophomore: As a running start student big bend is pretty awesome! The teachers want you to learn, everyone is very supportive and accessible. I think the biggest issues with Big Bend is it's a bit far from town and the cafeteria unfortunately closed, so you will have to go to town for food. Sophomore: Instructors, staff, and administrators are all really helpful at Lake Washington Institute of technology. I started taking classes for one program in 2018, and then switched to two other programs in 2022, and for the entire time I've been attending classes there, I've always received a lot of support. Sophomore: I have taken mostly science courses at Shoreline Community College, the best part of which has been the amazing teachers! The small class sizes have given me the opportunity to work one-on-one with professors that have doctorates in chemistry, anatomy and physiology, cellular biology, and microbiology. When I say that I leave every single class with new information, I mean it. No exaggerations. As far as change goes, I would love to see the buildings and equipment get some much needed updates. Our microbiology lab caught on fire this last quarter and we lost our microscopes, lab coats and goggles, in-person class time, and so much more. Sophomore: My overall experience at Green River has been amazing. The environment here has always been welcoming. I love how diverse the campus is and how it has given me the opportunity to make numerous friends from around the world. Green River is a safe and eco-friendly school that never has trash near it. Also, they are very accepting of people and their beliefs whether or not you are gay, bi, or any other religion. I also play a sport here at the college and the way the athletic department is run is very organized and friendly. I also live on campus and the dorms are very nice and homie, but I would like to see more activities in the living to bring people together. Graduate Student: My Skagit Valley College as a Running Start student was overall a good experience. I had many great professors, who always emphasized the fact that we’re willing to help us all. They were very kind and considerate. My PE professor even helped me on my graduation application process! My college counselor was less than helpful, but thankfully my Education and PE professors stepped in. The programs and diversity was great. My only complaint would be my college counselor, she would reply to my emails very late, sometimes months later. Freshman: Overall, my experience at YVC has been great! The professors are kind and understanding. They care about you as person, and they put you before school or anything else. It really feels like a community here. There's so much diversity at the school and it's wonderful to see. You'll be able to meet people of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, etc. Although COVID has made things difficult with being online or halfway in person, you don't get the same experience. The campus also has free tutoring, a there's always someone you can talk to or go to, to get help or ask questions. Sometimes it's hard to talk with the YVC main offices, and the communication isn't always great. However, in the long run, they help you figure out whatever you need, you may just need a little bit of patience with them. Sophomore: Lower Columbia is a great place to start college in a relaxed, but stimulating environment. I think the biggest draw for me has been the friendly, small-town atmosphere. The instructors challenge you to do your best, but also do their best to help you succeed. I am pursuing an AA in music and I may be a little biased, but I think the music instructors at LCC are the best! I have also had many good Gen Ed instructors, probably the most memorable being the math instructor from my first quarter. If you ever take her class, you will know what I mean. It was challenging and fun: from music playing before class, to the class work itself, to her great sense of humor and love of teaching. Niche User: I took an online math class at Lower Columbia College for college in the high school credits. The teacher was incredibly helpful and kind. The students worked hard and created a comfortable community. During the class, I was able to learn hands-on math skills as well as participate in a close-knit community. I have been on campus and it is a relatively nice area! The only critique I have is that the teacher did not grade very quickly and I would have to wait for important grades until the class ended. The class was scheduled for Monday and Friday but did not have a Zoom meeting which was incredibly convenient. The course was 'do it at your own pace'. The cost of attending Lower Columbia College is somewhat affordable and my school covered the cost of credits. I hope to tour the campus more to see if Lower Columbia College would be a viable option for me. I spoke to other students and they seem to enjoy the class too! Freshman: What I like the most about Perry Technical Institute is how professional they are, they are very strict on start times, Lunch times, and break times. There are no days wasted at perry technical Institute the moment you step in the classroom you should be ready to learn, and the instructor is ready to teach. I also like how much help they have around the campus such as scholarship help, financial aid help, mental health help, and they offer tutoring after school. They have vending machines all around the campus and a food vendor in the cafeteria.
