Freshman: As an international student having no experience, I was skeptical about applying, but I must say the overall experience was wonderful, as the application process was seamless, and the documents needed for the processing of my application were not much. My questions were dully answered, and I was communicated if something was missing in my application. Furthermore, the availability of scholarships to indigent and non-indigents, makes the package astounding. You also don't need to submit another application; you are automatically considered for scholarships. Senior: I am one term away from finishing my Criminal Justice Degree at Portland State University. I had a really good experience on campus and with the whole criminology program overall. I took many other criminology classes in addition to the required classes and they were all excellent. My favorite instructor was Jason Jones. What a valuable asset to PSU! What I liked the most about the criminology program at PSU was the fact that most of my instructors were actively working in law enforcement, so they are able to tell us what was going on in the Portland area presently and during the Covid pandemic era. I think the biggest thing I would like to see changed is tuition prices. Wow! Does it really need to cost that much to improve your life and contribute to the betterment of society? Alum: CUNY Hunter College was great for me, as someone who went to college right out of high school but wasn't yet sure of what I wanted to major in. All of my professors were phenomenal and I was able to get a good overview of what options I had in the first two years; I did not declare a major until the summer before my Junior year. It's a commuter school so it's easy to not get too involved with the culture but even so, in most majors you'll be taking a lot of classes with the same people, so it's still not difficult to get to know people. If you do want to get involved though, there are so many clubs! The workload is not unreasonably rigorous. Freshman: I am an incoming freshman and so far, all of my interactions have been great! I have had many family members attend Western Michigan university and plan to be the next one to become a Bronco. Academically, Western offers the Western School of Medicine that I am interested in and plan to one day join the medical field as my mother is a Registered Nurse. Helping others is something that I am passionate about and hope that I will be an asset to the much-needed health care family. With the growing shortage of medical providers in the country and the need increasing daily I believe that Western will be able to help me to obtain my education and be an added value to the community. Junior: I can honestly say I cannot imagine being this happy with any other university. I had high standards, as someone wanting to attend college here since the age of 14, but I was not disappointed in the slightest. The Elementary Education program creates such a close-knit and knowledgable group of students that I am so excited to see teach. As a pretty quiet person myself, there are people in my Elementary Ed classes I wouldn't even imagine speaking to or having anything in common with, but everyone is so extremely supportive and it truly feels like a big family. The professors in my department are very well-respected and knowledgable, while still clear that I can go to them with any personal issue I need advice on. The surrounding town is also amazing, there is so much to do while still keeping the small-town energy that draws a lot of students to campus.
