Freshman: So far though I have only been here minimally, a month and a half, my experience has been decent. My classes and professors are excellent and I have only had a few problems with the books store which professors have been understanding of. Professors are understanding and will listen if you have a valid issue that requires accommodations. My largest issue has been the lack of standardization amongst facilities. The older facilities are crumbling apart and unsafe, while the newer buildings are fantastic. This is specifically true with the residence halls. Some of the halls are desirable and excellent quality while others are unsafe. The difference is students must pay more for quality which is unfair. Students who come from lower-income families and situations shouldn't be forced to live in less satisfactory conditions. Otherwise, I have been enjoying myself. Freshman: When I first toured Valley City State University, there were several things which immediately captured my interest and led to my applying there. First off, walking up to the university, I was struck by the beautiful campus. The buildings and structures were lovely, and walking down the halls and exploring different rooms I could feel that they were filled with history. Then I learned about their fantastic teaching program. I was planning to major in Mathematics education, and their teaching program was exactly what I felt I needed to begin my journey. I think what convinced me the most though, that this was the school for me, was the kind and friendly atmosphere of the campus. Everyone I met was genuinely and very helpful. I felt very welcome there. The only thing I might have changed was during my first semester is was required that I live in a dorm on campus which I couldn’t afford, so I completed this first year online to avoid that. Freshman: Lake Region State College has a moto of changing lives. They are 100 percent true to that statement as I have only been here for a small number of weeks, my life is already improved. The small class sizes makes the environment outstandingly comforting as an incoming freshman. This school does not fail to make you feel cared for and taken care of. This is the type of school where teachers remember your name after the first day and say hello in the hallways. I am the type of student that requires one on one attention to be able to complete the task given to me and this is exactly what I am receiving at Lake Region. I am apart of the softball team as well and it is nothing less than a family. The coaching staff resembles a parental figure. I am only three weeks into my two-year long adventure with Lake Region and I am already loving it. I am an international student who came down from Canada, the process was made very easy. Freshman: I would recommend TMCC to my fellow Native Americans students, because of the amazing opportunities it gives to there people. If you are struggling on your culture and trying to find more ways to learn more about the history of Native Americans this would be a great school to choose. They offer all kinds of extracurricular activities if you are into sports, science, cooking, business and pretty much anything you can think of they most likely have it. Yes this school involves all cultures, but I wanted to list the amazing options they have for Native Americans for them being a predominantly Native school.
