Alum: I love nearly everything about this school! The sports are great, there are major entertainment events, art and religion are honored, there are over 1,000 student organizations, and I have had incredible professors consistently throughout my years (although peers in other majors did not always say this). In the area, there is hiking, skiing, several summer festivals, several thrift stores, and a high proportion of restaurants with different ethnic cuisines. Recommendation for change are prioritizing updates to dorm buildings and increasing accessibility to groceries downtown, as this is where a large number of students live (without their cars). It has many international students, but is otherwise limited in diversity. It mostly reflects the state/region, so I do not see this as something that necessarily needs to change.... Senior: I LOVE Temple University! Most of my professors have been nice, fair, knowledgeable and even passionate about what they teach. Temple has a gym on campus, which offers group fitness classes including yoga, cycling, and meditation, included in tuition fees. The healthcare I received on campus has always been stellar. The Disability Resource Services offered have been stellar, and the 24-hour TECH Center is a pleasure to spend days in while studying and working on projects. Temple has an app now where you can request a chaperoned walk home in person or virtually, as well as a nightly shuttle that circulates around the edges of campus for those in off-campus housing. Our Marching Band was one of my favorite extra curriculars offering an annual stipend when you join and you get to perform synchronized dances to pop songs at home games on Philly Eagles turf at the LINC. Sophomore: Due to merging of a former college that I’ve been accepted to, there has been a lack of management and coordination in a lot of departments. The staff and instructors are awesome and try their best to manage with the situations. It’s slowly getting there and improvements have been coming along pretty noticeably, but it still needs more time and work. Considering the fact that they are operating multiple campuses, the only suggestion I would have is to try to integrate them together. Majority of the major events take place at the major campus and there is a lack of convenient transport between campuses. There can be some major improvements there is foster inclusivity and cooperation from everyone. You will not find a more friendly, welcoming campus than Marywood. You are encouraged to learn and train in your major, but also to experience classes that broaden your mind, deepen your perspective, and open you to new experiences. Senior: It is a christian university and there are many great things about it. However, many of the students who attend lack maturity and it can be disappointing when trying to find good christian relationships. Despite this, there are some great things on campus. Including prayer group and powerhouse. As far as the majors, I have experience in 6 different majors. The Bible program can be intense but it is good. Our music major is okay, but definitely more band focused than choir. Our business and athletic departments are both amazing and I have loved every moment and interaction in these departments. I have also heard wonderful things about our nursing department from friends but I personally am not a part of it. Overall, it is a good school, but if you are a conservative, be prepared for a lot of left wing views. Alum: W&J is highly underrated. It is a beautiful campus with a mix of well-preserved historic and new modern buildings. Tasty, healthy food is available in the main dining commons and separate grill with plenty of places for students to congregate. The student vibe is upbeat, friendly, and motivated. Dedicated professors make classes challenging but interesting. The school has a tight knit community feel. Also, the location offers the best of both worlds: safe suburban campus just a short car or school-provided shuttle ride to Pittsburgh. Freshman: Going to KU has been the best decision I made in my entire life, as well as the best thing that has ever happened to me. From debating world issues in Model UN to traveling to Washington DC to work with advocacy groups, I had an unprecedented number of political opportunities this year as a political science major. Both the academics and the extracurriculars have been amazing. Although I dreaded having to take general education courses in college, KU gave us much leeway in what types of courses we could take to fulfill our requirements. From cultural geography to anthropology, the gen ed courses that we could choose from were far from a limited selection. In fact, I can even get away with taking a social science course to fulfill my science class requirement! Senior: Be a part of a family that knows and cares about you and your future, HFU, you belong here! A catholic private university found right in northeast Philadelphia, with one of the safest neighborhoods and approachable professors due to smaller class size that really helps with building networks and establishing connections even after graduation. A family-like institution where you get help when asked and get to enjoy year-round events and free giveaways. Senior: Seton Hill is a truly peaceful place to study and be at. It is one of the most beautiful universities I have ever visited. The faculty are all amazing, and truly helpful. The only downside of Seton Hill is the cost per semester, it is crazily expensive. So I recommend saving, FAFSA, and applying for scholarships. I wish applying through FAFSA with the school, and getting certain TAX records were better communicated at times. So far as my academic experience it has been absolutely wonderful. Each of my professors took the time to get to know me personally. They actually care for their students, and take the time to make sure you are understanding the lectures and assignments. Alum: Elizabethown College is a tight community with dedicated professors and cheerful students. I attended in the 80's and the spirit has remained unchanged. There are many suburban high school students looking for a comfortable environment like Etown. Living on campus is quiet and college community oriented. The academics are excellent, on par with colleges that have higher rankings. While the college is no longer officially tied to the Brethren church, there is a history of acceptance, service and tolerance that is a strong reason for some students to consider Etown. While there is no Greek scene at the college there was a lively party scene on and off campus when I went there. Alum: The campus is beautiful, and the dorms and classrooms are nice. The teachers in the math department are very difficult and it seems as if most non-math majors take their math requirements elsewhere or online. Even the advisors tell students not to even attempt calc at our school. The biology department does great research and has many opportunities if you would like to get involved, but it seems as if funding will continue to be cut for these programs, so who knows how long these opportunities will be readily available. The biology program is amazing if you are looking for human based biology, but any environmental biology or related subjects I would 100% recommend looking elsewhere. My partner ended up in their environmental science program and it looked super cool from the outside, but when it came to scheduling classes, he struggled to keep even a full-time schedule because most of the classes listed were not actually offered.... Freshman: Overall, my college is very unique. In all one street people who live in Reading all have their education all in one line. Which is very cool to people who aren't from the city of Reading, PA. The school itself is very diverse and takes pride in that. We are all about the community and they care about their upcoming students. We moved in a few days before the school year started just to get comfortable in the college setting and get to know our teachers. The professors here are very understanding and encouraging to their students. Letting us students know that our mental health matters more than a grade sometimes. Senior: I came in to start a new football program and what we emphasize most is being apart of the school fully in and out the program. My coach preaches to be close with your professors because how small the school is. Sophomore: I’ve enjoyed how professors have encouraged me to explore outside of my comfort zone. Critiquing my work in a serious manner but at the same time, their feedback includes manners to improve the work and reasons why such changes need to be made. Setting up projects to make us think quickly, while taking our time to perfect the final product. Preparing students for how the world will expect us to work with similar projects. I would like to see the communication between the people in leadership roles of the school and students be improved.
