I followed a good path after getting my Associate Degree at Suffolk County Community College, and now I am excited to receive my Bachelor Degree soon. FSC has been a great experience overall. Junior: My experience for the most part has been nothing short but exciting. The ability to meet people from different backgrounds and come together as a community is something that I will always remember. What I liked about New York Institute of Technology is not only the size of the campus but the interaction you can have with others. The teachers for the most part are very assessable outside of class hours and do care about what they are teaching, and do try to get you into the topic. Something that I do believe can be improved upon is the need for sports. Not only does it offer opportunities for athletes but it allows for student engagement to increase as we can come as one united front supporting our school. I also would like to see some true traditional dorms at the school as we do not have any dorms on campus. Freshman: Norwalk Community College is a great start if you're not exactly ready to jump right in to college. I transferred to Norwalk Community College my spring semester of 2023 and I believe it was one of the best decisions I could've made. I went to a 4 year university my first semester of my freshman year and it was overwhelming and very fast paced. Making the choice to transfer to community college turned out to be the transition that I needed. Being at Norwalk, it has allowed me to be more self-paced and a lot more manageable academic wise. I was able to feel myself slowing down and really taking to the time to focus on my work without always stressing. No matter where you go, it may always feel like it's hard to meet people but with community college, Norwalk has showed me that people may be closed off at first but it's more of just putting yourself out there and people will come to. Sophomore: Suffolk Community College is the ultimate gateway towards your field of study. As a conglomerate of buildings throughout Long Island, it’s like they have almost everything that someone would like to study. It is nice to have professors that are very passionate. I was just disappointed with the lack of classes that they had when compared to the amount they presented in DegreeWorks. Sophomore: I started attending during the semester of Fall 2020, and I must really say that a great number of professors are top-notch in their knowledge and instruction capacities for the invested student. There was one semester where three of my professors were Doctorates of Color, which was incredibly motivating for me to see, because at surface level one might not equate community college with an ivy education, but the fact of the matter is a lot are just as capable, if not more. The main campus building and overall community was definitely felt during the semesters where everything was remote. The staff in the student offices genuinely go out of their way to help the students as if they were their own family members, which is something I noted in the several times I've had to make appointments for academic & financial advising.
