Freshman: This university is a great place for diversity and offers a wide variety of courses. While it’s certainly not a party school, the school has an amazing social climate for those who are more lowkey with their social interactions. They do a lot of diversity and inclusion training, and treat their freshmen class really well. The faculty and staff are extremely welcoming and nice, I have not had a bad experience with them yet! The professors are mostly very friendly and recognize hard work, and their courses are very informative and thorough. The campus is also very compact, so getting from class to class is not a hassle at all, especially if you’re scheduled back to back. The only cons I can see is the high monetary pricing of the school (as most private colleges) and the fact that the campus VA program does not communicate with the on base VA, so you’re basically setting up your benefits without a lot of help, and it also leads to a lot of misscommunication.... Graduate Student: I had a pretty good experience here! There were some teachers within the nursing program who acted like they didn’t care, but there were far more who did! They helped motivate me and even talked me off the ledge when I was thinking about quitting! In my Final semester, I didn’t have any financial aid to pay my tuition, but with the help of my advisor and financial aid, which one of my instructors told me to do, I was able to find and apply for a scholarship and finish my degree! I take loved the fact that I didn’t have to enroll myself in my classes also, so I never had to guess on what to take, even before I was in my program! They took great care of me. Niche User: Northwest Vista is an incredible college with a beautiful campus. There are some really incredible professors employed at Northwest Vista College. In particular, Robert DiGiovanni was an excellent professor who made himself available by phone via call or text! He had excellent pre-recorded videos prior (many years prior) to covid. His methodologies of working through problems were superb. I think that he is reflective of most of the professors I had at Northwest Vista College. The great thing about Northwest Vista college is that it is one of five other 2 year universities within the Alamo Colleges umbrella. This means that you have a massive selection of professors, as well as online options. The prices of courses within the Alamo Colleges system are outstanding. Alum: Sam Houston State University is a very warm environment with professors who really care about providing an excellent educational experience. I especially appreciated how quickly my professors responded to my emails, and there was never a moment where I felt that I was taking this college journey alone. There are also various student organizations that not only help students get connected with others on campus, but there are also lots of volunteer opportunities to help students get involved with the community of Huntsville. If I could change anything about my experience, I definitely would have stayed on campus instead of commuting. The parking spaces are few and far between, and with a dorm on campus it is much easier to access classes and student activities. There is usually always some kind of construction happening on the roads, so being able to avoid this by staying on campus is also a plus. Junior: Never would I imagine that I would make it to a University and get the best experience. And yet here I am, my experience of being a student at St. Edward's University have been fantastic! My first time entering the building so much anxiety built up in my body, but also excitement that my voice is screaming inside "I'm really actually here!" not to mention a lot of emotional feelings flooding in and out when I had to say goodbye to my family. Now being in College doesn't go without struggles and its been like a rollercoaster for me, but with the help and support of St. Edward's and my family I made it through my first year. There are a lot of things that I like about the University, for one it does really good on notifying its students on any up comings announcements, alerts, and even inspiring messages for every struggling student. Junior: Austin Community College is a great path to higher education. I think it's great for high school graduates because it gives them a chance to grow more first instead of rushing off to university. The different ages and backgrounds of students bring a level of stability that you don't get anywhere else. It's a good place to get your bearings, knowledge, and skills to navigate student life. They now offer bachelor's degrees in computer science too! We often get referred to food pantries and the free public transportation access has been a great help for me. The classes can be much smaller, so you can become more familiar with professors. You can get free tutoring for subjects. The professors have enough time to help you and are understanding. They accommodate disabilities and emergencies. My only complaints would be ACC needs to be expanded and that all campuses could be linked through public transportation to each other. Sophomore: Lee College is a cheap and easy way to get a college education. For the price, you get a pretty good education. Professors are there to help you, they understand when situations occur and are willing to work with you. Email and keep in contact with your professors! It's a well known community college for a reason. The professors are good at what they do, some are less communicative or involved than others. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because some classes are very straightforward and don't need lots of involvement. Every professor I've had is willing to work with you, keeps in contact, and responds to emails within a day. The courses have the same rigor as other colleges and even some universities.
