Freshman: There’s many thing to love to about St. Philip’s College! From the people, experience, studies, student life, and outside of St. Philip’s Campus. There is many people from many cultures and places that is meant to be for everyone. The studies aren’t as wide but are for those who need a degree in a year or two to work. Including the great opportunities like CNA, Cyber security, and mechanic jobs. Including possible certification after the degree plan. The student life page and alerts provide great details about events that will take place in campus, zoom, and other opportunities for college or jobs. My most favorite event is culture feast which is full of foods, people from the college or around town, and can be a called a small San Antonio experience in one place. Graduate Student: Amarillo College is an academically challenging institution of higher learning. I have gone on to become a Family Nurse Practitioner- but got my start at AC many years ago. AC is very well known for being a tough school- and I’m so glad I graduated with my first degree from there. Amarillo was a large but very clean and nicely maintained city when I lived there back then- but I cannot believe how much Amarillo has since boomed! Metroplex population of almost 300k! Graduate Student: I had a pretty good experience here! There were some teachers within the nursing program who acted like they didn’t care, but there were far more who did! They helped motivate me and even talked me off the ledge when I was thinking about quitting! In my Final semester, I didn’t have any financial aid to pay my tuition, but with the help of my advisor and financial aid, which one of my instructors told me to do, I was able to find and apply for a scholarship and finish my degree! I take loved the fact that I didn’t have to enroll myself in my classes also, so I never had to guess on what to take, even before I was in my program! They took great care of me. Alum: I spent two semesters at Tarrant County College Northwest Campus to get my Associates of Science. My instructors were almost all excellent, very understanding, and helpful, with the exception of a single online course I took (it was essentially a weekly assigned reading and essay with minimal teacher interaction). There are abundant resources on campus for students, with tutoring and dedicated help centers separated by subject. The extracurriculars were also fun. I got involved in the school's math club, music club, and philosophy club (Pi club, NW Music Association, and Plato's cave). It being a community college, the clubs were relatively small (5-10 people), which made it feel much more personal. The campus also has a gym and pool that are free to use, which was VERY awesome. The cafeteria is a bit lacking, being a Subway and some vending machines, so definitely bring a lunch. Sophomore: Delmar College has been a great experience for me. The courses are not filled with an overwhelming amount of students so there is more opportunities for you to ask questions to your professor or schedule time to discuss something from class during their office hours. All of the professors I have come across here have been wonderful and show their willingness to help however they can towards your course success. I am also grateful for the student success center provided by Delmar. I was able to rent out a laptop for free from there just by showing my student ID at a time when I could not afford one. I would recommend Delmar College to anyone who wishes to transfer to a university after achieving their Associates Degree from her. Other: Southwest Texas Junior College is a relatively small college but it has a very cozy and small-town feel to it.
