Senior: I was immediately attracted to Alfred State the moment I stepped onto campus for its size. It is small but not too small. The class sizes are perfect. The professors are able to give you more personal attention than a lot of friends receive at other colleges. The professors at Alfred State want you to succeed and will help you achieve your goals. The support of my professors has given me more confidence in myself. There is always something to do at Alfred State. Fall and football is my favorite time of year. The team seems to unite the entire campus. There are many sports teams, clubs and general campus activities to participate in to meet new people and develop new friendships. The dorms are comfortable and are currently undergoing refurbishment, and the dining hall is top notch! There is something for everyone. Freshman: I am Fina Calvillo, 29 and a US Army Veteran. A week before my ETS (End-of-Time-Service) date, I applied to Jefferson Community College. When I went to Veterans office in the campus to enroll, I was surprised how accommodating the staff was. They help me a lot to make my enrollment process easy since I came from I studied high school and college from another country. I am now taking my prerequisites for my occupational Therapy. Senior: SUNY Cobleskill is a wonderful campus to either begin your journey in the agricultural industry or to expand on your current knowledge. The majority of our professors have spent their lives in the fields they teach about so well, whether it be researchers of psychology, dairy farms of New York, or canine trainers who work for law enforcement K9 training units. This allows us to have our unique, experiential learning programming that we are so well known for. Unfortunately, because of our unique programming, we often have more students than available space in classes. This setback often limits students' schedules or overloads our staff. We would be able to alleviate this issue by hiring more qualified faculty to join our programs. Freshman: Staff, very welcoming, friendly that sort of deal. Campus is pretty easy to navigate, feels like walking 2-3 neighborhood blocks. All the professors I dealt with were super approachable, reasonable with deadlines, and they were really cool to talk to. You should definitely explore the local area in your free time and make friends with upperclassmen so that they can show you around. Loads of activities going around campus, community movie nights, sports games, sledding in winter to name a few. The hot food is GREAT 95% of the time but they have loads of other options too so you'll too disapointed in your dinner. Sandwich station? Life saver on those nights and just a good lunch in general. Our classmen are really friendly so if you ever feel lonely look around for a group and ask to join in to whatever they're doing. They'd love to accommodate you. Sophomore: I enjoy going to Suny Adirondack, as a current student I can say that the classes they offer are very interesting and fulfilling, though I've had a few run ins with faculty and staff and most of my issues were quickly resolved! The fellow students are all nice and pretty easy to get along with. While I do not live on campus, I have been in the dorms a couple times, they're pretty nice! I'm a huge fan of the room set up! As per college food, there's only 2 places to eat, and it's what you would expect from a community college. If you're really looking for something good to eat their Roast Beef sandwich is pretty good, and so are their chicken nuggets. The only downfall of this college is how unaccommodating they are towards their working students, I've butted heads with plenty of the staff in regard to scheduling meeting times after class hours to just get help on a homework assignment, or just to ask for more clarification on a paper we talked about in class. Sophomore: Equine program is great! Make sure to find the right group of friends! Professors are mostly understanding, scheduling is tough when you don't have a good advisor. Take as many courses in high school before school and get geneds out of the way asap! Study hard and use the library you get some many free opportunities and things available. Show up to barn duty and work hard because the weaklings will be picked out.
