Sophomore: I transferred to Maryville from Saint louis University. At Saint Louis University I felt that my educational needed weren’t being met. The professors didn’t teach that well and were not there when I needed help. At maryville, the professors are very understanding and helpful. They help you with more than the course they are teaching and if they can’t help you they always make sure to find someone who can. The professors at Maryville really want to see you succeed unlike the ones at Saint Louis University. Everyone is welcoming and there are so many events at Maryville that helps you fit in with the right group for you. Maryville also have life coaches which are a huge help! They help you with almost everything whether it be academic help, scheduling, finding jobs, etc. The life coaches always check in on you making sure you are doing okay and if you’re not they always try to make it better. Sophomore: I have really enjoyed going to school here! The teachers are friendly and very helpful. The teachers are all very easy to follow and will readily work with you if needed. There is also a multitude of available tutors. This school is also great for those who work full-time, I have taken several of their later classes which makes it much easier for me to get my hours in at work. I attend the Columbia campus, which is part of a building complex with a few other schools or businesses in it. There isn't any housing and the area isn't always the safest, but there are many stores and restaurants around which makes it easy to get other errands done around my classes. Junior: This college is awesome! I honestly saved more money financially and didn’t take any loans out. The teacher are amazing and very understanding when it comes to you and your work problems. I personally would recommend this college, many will say it’s basic to go to a community college but when you graduate ask them if it was basic after they have taken all those loans after you have taken none out! Your experience here in OTC will be fun! More hands on in whatever field you choose and also remember it’s more faster then a bachelors. Sophomore: The Chemistry department is amazing. The professors are always willing to help with assignments. They are there to help you succeed and welcome you to office hours when you need help. The advisors aren't always the most helpful when trying to figure out your class schedule. I think it'd be beneficial there to be advisors for different degree areas. For example, I think it'd be much easier to have an advisor for all science students, one for business students, one for nursing students, and so on and so forth. That would probably require more advisors than necessary but I think dividing the degrees by category would help. Senior: I have to admit, as a St. Louis native who always dreamed of attending college in another state, Harris-Stowe State University wasn't even on my list of schools to consider. I spent my first year at Tuskegee University in Alabama. However, things did not work out there. Once I returned to St. Louis, I had no idea what the future entailed. By fate, I was introduced to Harris-Stowe by the president at the time, Dujuan Warmack. After stepping foot on campus and touring the school, I quickly caught on to family-like feel with it being a very small institution. That was something that stood out to me. I could tell that if I attended that I wouldn't be just another number in the classroom. Junior: Overall, I have gained a lot from my years at MCC. My first year was incredibly difficult for me because I was not properly prepared to be accountable for myself without anyone being there to push me along. So, I do think that there needs to be a little bit more support for first-year college students. Maybe in English Comp 1, which most first-year college students take, there is a section about learning to take notes for college and how some people take notes differently and work that into the curriculum. I also think the advisors need to be more informed about what students may need when transferring to outside Universities after their time here. Personally, I have a lot of classes that I need to transfer to another school's Nursing programs that my advisor did not inform me of or even tell me to begin looking at what I may need. Sophomore: I have so far loved the professors at my time here, and as a student-athlete, they were very understanding and always strived to support me with weighing academics and athletics, and this really helped me with stress. I took some online courses over the summer and for the online classes the only problem I had was sometimes communicating with my teachers could be complicated. Overall it was a good experience! The dorm life is amazing, and really great compared to other top universities, the food is ok, a lot of times it can be really different but they always have a salad and sandwich bar if theres nothing in the cafe. Freshman: My experience at Westminster has been overall amazing. I came in to college very scared and nervous. I convinced myself that I was going to make no friends, but that was not the case. Freshman: WELL! At first I didn't really won't to be here, because I wasn't ready to leave away from home and go off to college.
