Senior: Friendly environment with a lovely small town feel. Coming onto campus my freshman year I was very nervous because it was such a huge transition from high school. I was far away from my hometown friends and family in a town that I had never heard of until I applied to Tarleton. Thankfully, I was approached with open arms and quickly made friends. Tarleton has an amazing student organization that host events often to engage with students and keep the spirit of Tarleton alive. What also makes Tarleton so unique is that the president is often seen at various events and loves to talk with students and engage with them. Throughout my years at Tarleton I have joined various clubs and have made life long friends. The only thing I would change however, is the science department. Most of the professors in the department are very iffy and I have not had the best experience with them or the dean. Sophomore: Collin College has been a great stepping stone for me. I have never felt so myself and confident because of how diverse Collin’s environment is. I enjoy going to school and feel that every professor and staff member there wants you to succeed. I really like how inclusive they make the school activities and how it’s free for everyone. I would like to see an even stricter security outside of the school. We do have security inside, but there is not a scanning component at the entrances so anyone is free to enter. Unfortunately, I wonder if that could come back to haunt us. The student council is really good at listening and understanding what is best for us students, so I do have hope that an open conversation could change the security system for the better. Overall, that doesn’t stop me from attending. I go to a technical campus and my professor has compared the work between her university students and us community college ones. Junior: I have been at blinn for majority of my college experience and excited to graduate the surgical tech program (the professors in this program are top tier) next year! Blinn as a whole is a great school when trying to factor in cost and the efficiency of the school. I have had some issues with professors in the past and then unable to drop the class even though they (the professors) were unprofessional. The faculty in the admissions is great, I’ve never had an issue. I would love to see the advising department become a little more enthusiastic about helping the students. As for the financial aid department, they are helpful to an extent. I’ve always struggled with getting aid even though I’ve been independent since I was 17, but as far as the schools concerned that does not qualify you to get appropriate aid. They are super friendly in that department but not very helpful regarding some unfortunate circumstances. As for the party life, it’s non existent unless you know people already.... Junior: Austin Community College is a great path to higher education. I think it's great for high school graduates because it gives them a chance to grow more first instead of rushing off to university. The different ages and backgrounds of students bring a level of stability that you don't get anywhere else. It's a good place to get your bearings, knowledge, and skills to navigate student life. They now offer bachelor's degrees in computer science too! We often get referred to food pantries and the free public transportation access has been a great help for me. The classes can be much smaller, so you can become more familiar with professors. You can get free tutoring for subjects. The professors have enough time to help you and are understanding. They accommodate disabilities and emergencies. My only complaints would be ACC needs to be expanded and that all campuses could be linked through public transportation to each other. Niche User: Northwest Vista is an incredible college with a beautiful campus. There are some really incredible professors employed at Northwest Vista College. In particular, Robert DiGiovanni was an excellent professor who made himself available by phone via call or text! He had excellent pre-recorded videos prior (many years prior) to covid. His methodologies of working through problems were superb. I think that he is reflective of most of the professors I had at Northwest Vista College. The great thing about Northwest Vista college is that it is one of five other 2 year universities within the Alamo Colleges umbrella. Freshman: Navarro College provides many great opportunities for it's students. There are very diverse ranges of classes & professors. In my personal experience, my professors are always encouraging to ask questions and be open with them. This obviously makes my piers and I more comfortable and more open to learning constantly. They provide a sense of compassion that I have never experienced in my whole life when it comes to education. It makes me eager to push myself past my expectations and also break barriers. The campus is also beautiful. Being that it is a junior college it is smaller when compared to 4 year institutions but this takes nothing from it. All of my classes are within a few minutes of walking from my dorm, it is very easy to get from point A to point B.
