Alum: Definitely do a campus tour first before you commit to a school, because this school. WOW. Caught my eye and I felt like I could see myself getting my degree here in four years. The campus itself is amazing, and is easily maneuverable if you find yourself late for class. Also a great place to go if you are from Hawaii. Many of my friends were from Hawaii and it just made easing into college way easier. I did not feel like I have left home at all. All the professors are great and they all have their own personalities which make classes all the more fun to attend. Senior: I am one term away from finishing my Criminal Justice Degree at Portland State University. I had a really good experience on campus and with the whole criminology program overall. I took many other criminology classes in addition to the required classes and they were all excellent. My favorite instructor was Jason Jones. What a valuable asset to PSU! What I liked the most about the criminology program at PSU was the fact that most of my instructors were actively working in law enforcement, so they are able to tell us what was going on in the Portland area presently and during the Covid pandemic era. I think the biggest thing I would like to see changed is tuition prices. Wow! Does it really need to cost that much to improve your life and contribute to the betterment of society? Sophomore: I have really enjoyed my time at Chemeketa. I have taken both in-person and online classes, and both have been very well organized and the teachers have been excellent in their fields. Community college gets a lot of flack, but I feel like I made a really smart choice going here first, exploring my options, and getting my associate's at a much lower price. The advisors, tutors, and other admin staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and want to see you succeed. Most of my experience so far has been at the Yamhill Valley Campus, which has wonderful lighting, technology access, and studying areas. I highly recommend attending Chemeketa if you are considering post-secondary education, whether that be just a few classes or working toward a graduate degree. I want to give a special shout out to my favorite teacher there: Keely Baca! Freshman: Overall my experience at Southern Oregon University has been very memorable and I mean this in a good way. The people there are great and inclusive, it feels almost like home. People were very kind and respectful of others and there wasn't any bullying that I had personally experienced or heard from peers. I think one thing I'd like to see change is campus diversity. While there are some BIPOC people on campus, there still weren't many. As a POC, I would have liked to see more POC people. Another would be housing as there have been many stories, both personal and heard from peers, that trying to get ahold of housing or to get a straight answer was difficult. Junior: The college is great for helping people pursue different career options. You don't have to know what you are planning to do for the future right away. Graduate Student: My experience at Rogue Community College has been awesome and still continues to be awesome. I recieved my first degree from rogue and am now pursuing a second. Freshman: I enrolled into Umpqua Community College due to their scholarship opportunities presented within their athletic program. Currently competing in Obstacle Course Racing, Cross Country and Track covering my full 2 year tuition. I found there campus the most unique from most community colleges, not only is UCC affordable, its also built on a mountain surrounded a gorgeous scenery. I have a passion for running and while attending UCC I have been able to travel to multiple states for competitions as well as getting the opportunity to be coached by a very brilliant coach that shares my same passion. Regarding my education, I have had many professors that do their best to guide me and other students to success. Including a professor that is related to former NFL player Troy Polamalu. I moved to Roseburg from Lodi California and have been offered so much support from this school that finding a living situation was easy. Junior: I like that the school is small. This allows smaller class size and more interaction with the instructors (5:1 student to instruction ratio).
