Junior: I love how community based the school is. It's small enough so that everyone is connected in some way and often when you're friends with one person they know a different friend in some way and it's like one giant family. Everyone is so incredibly nice on campus, and there are so many opportunities to participate in research or volunteering. Alum: Northeastern provides lots of amenities to make students with different backgrounds comfortable. Lots of offerings help students feel supported in their mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing (e.g. meditation/prayer room, mental wellness programs, gym incl. group fitness programs, cafes on campus incl. Starbucks). The School is in the city, however still is one big campus which is rather rare for city campuses. I've had a good experience with my classes. There is a big variety to choose from. The international students could have been better integrated into the American student body. However clubs on campus allowed to meet people from all backgrounds. The variety of clubs and initiatives on campus is vast! The school has a great connection to the industry and the co-op program allows you to graduate with practical experience. Freshman: Currently, I'm a student at Simmons University. While there's a lot wrong with the school (...Bartol), there are also some great things. All of my professors have been very dedicated to seeing me succeed, and are willing to put in extra time and effort to help me. Everyone I've met is either extremely friendly, or at least cordial, and I've made some of my best friends here. The dorms aren't great, but they also aren't awful. You can put in a work order, and usually, things get fixed. If you decorate, it will feel less like a jail cell. This school is STEM-focused, so humanities majors may find resources lacking, but the professors in humanities departments will acknowledge this. It's also great for LGBT students, as you won't be the minority. However, for POC students, there is work to be done. There are a lot of events specifically for POC students, though! Freshman: Most staff members are genuinely really nice and understanding, though some departments have notoriously underqualified professors (especially the math department). There are a range of courses offered, so you can try a lot of different things and maybe even discover more about yourself! I always knew I was interested in cinema, for example, but I am taking Cinema 101 at the moment and it made me consider minoring in the subject. I really recommend taking a variety of classes! The campus is pretty small, so it's hard to get lost (even for someone like me, who is really bad with directions). It's also really pretty, it has an ocean view and there's so many cute squirrels and rabbits running around! It can get pretty cold, though, due to the aforementioned ocean being right next to the university. Alum: I went to Regis undergrad nursing and graduated 5.5 years ago. I had lived in campus and had a wonderful time. It is a small college but that appealed to me because I didn’t want to be in a lecture hall with 400 other people. My biggest class size was about 35 people and it was a lecture course. There was a pretty good array of extra curricular activities for those like Me that don’t do sports. I enjoyed campus ministry and in my freshman year, I was a part of the theatre troupe and put on the play Godspell. I do wish there had been more plays or musicals during my time. The biggest problem during my time there was the food. The dining hall struggled to provide good nutrition but by my senior year they had hired a new company and were making good strives to fix it. There was also a Dunkin’ on campus which was awesome and then the LSU had a grill and premade meals. Freshman: Merrimack College is a great place to flourish into becoming yourself. There is an abundance of resources from the Arcidi Center to the staff to Warrior One Stop that all want to see you succeed. Alum: I had a great experience at Emmanuel. The reasons I chose the school were because I wanted to major in Art Therapy and I wanted a smaller school with a closed campus. I enjoyed the small class sizes and getting to know my professors. I chose to live on campus all four years because I liked that my classes, the art studio, dining hall was all close by. The dorms were fine for me and I made use of the gyms in a few of the buildings. The dining hall food was also fine for me and I enjoyed the stir-fry and salad options. The location of the school is one of the highlights. Located on the Fenway, it is close to other universities as well as the Museum of Fine Art, Isabella Stewart Gardner museum, and lots of parks. Freshman: MassBay was the first school I'd attended after dropping out of high school for physical & mental health reasons. I was nervous at first, as I was used to schools overlooking my needs, or making classes inaccessible by default (e.g., in high school, my disabling fatigue meant that sometimes I couldn't attend class, and missing even one day was disastrous as it'd cause me to fall behind). This isn't the case at MassBay. My first in-person class was with Prof. Keegan, with whom I didn't even NEED to request accommodations, because he was so good about putting everything on Blackboard by default! I'm having a similarly positive experience with Prof. Bastien. MassBay's teachers are passionate about what they do, and I feel like they actually care about my success. Missing classes due to my health is no longer a "death sentence" for me. I'm not falling behind because of 1 missed day anymore! Senior: Rivier University is great if you want small class sizes and a small campus environment and community. All of my classes have been less than 30 students, and most were 15 or less. As a part of the biotechnology program, I have reaped the benefits of a brand-new science building and lab spaces. There is also a brand-new business and nursing building opening in fall 2022 as well as new dorms being added to campus. If you want a school with small class sizes where you know everyone who lives in your hallway and seeing friendly faces every time you walk to class, Riv is for you!
