Sophomore: The University of Arizona has been a transformative experience for me. My involvement in Greek life offered not only memorable social events but also emphasized leadership and community service. Sophomore: My experience at NAU has been a dream. All of my professors this past year were hard-working and gave their all when it came to their students. I always felt supported by the university through their facilities and programs such as Peer Jacks, free math tutoring, and even the courses such as First Year Seminar, which was the perfect introduction into a new place with new people. With every college there are some downsides however. I found that considering the amount of undergraduates at the university, the lack of staffing for counselors made it almost impossible to be seen. In order to get a meeting with my counselor about upcoming class registration, I have to book an appointment months in advance in order to get ahead of their busy schedule. I think this small thing could be fixed with just adding some people in that department in order to accommodate for the university enrollment. Freshman: Overall I think my student child would have preferred to be in Tempe, although housing seems better. Access to classes in proximity to dorms is great. Parking is limited & pricyley. Cafeteria comfort level ok. The AC wasn't working the last few weeks and requesting carryout costs 6.00! Finally, talk of a plethora of scholarship money out there easily accessible to the ASU website is true. Yet, when applying not a single confirmed positive hit has been reveived. (Still applying and for my student as well. ) Seems that a lot scholarships have strict qualifications, and for Pell grant recipients. However, if Pell grant earners have free money, why would they be prioritized to receive even more free money for college. The system seems unfair. College costs and fafsa awards are not geared for hard working middle /working class families. Sophomore: ASU online is a self-paced learning environment. Professors upload pre-recorded lecture videos and assignments on Canvas, there is no set time that a student must log in to class. While I mentioned that the course work is self-paced, there is still deadlines to be met. My greatest struggle with this was time management. As a Starbucks shift supervisor, I work around 35-40 hours weekly. It was recommended by my academic advisor to allocate around 20 weekly hours per class. Professors were accomodating, help center was open 24/7, and there were so many resources available for online students. I struggled to practice self discipline and motivation, as no one was there to hold me accountable. Despite my struggles in time management and discipline, I was extremely satisfied with my experience in virtual learning! One improvement I'd like to see is an increase in student interaction. Sophomore: PVCC is a great school to start your college journey. The classes are affordable, the campus is easy to navigate, and the professors are usually pretty great. When deciding on a degree path, the advisors are excellent at helping you get on track. My last two semesters there were a bit confusing and I was having difficulty figuring out what classes I needed to sign up for so that I could properly transfer my credits to the graduate school I chose. My academic advisor was thorough and replied to my messages quickly. He made sure I was on the right track and everything has gone through correctly. The counseling office was also helpful. Classes and home life tend to be stressful for me, but having access to professionals in counseling that I could meet with for free was a blessing to me. I felt assured by them and my professors were accommodating when I talked to them about it. Graduate Student: The campus is clean and very easy to navigate through. All my teachers were very understanding and kept the communication very clear and open. I feel blessed to have had not only great teachers but a nice well kept college close to home. From the FinAid to registration personnel all Departments were accommodating and courteous! Senior: Outstanding institution of learning. My BA in Government (Legal Studies) will be awarded to me this July. I have to add that when it comes to promptly responding to queries, both Myong, the university counselor, and Marciel, my student services counselor, have been superb! A simple outline that includes all the knowledge required to successfully complete the class serves as the class's program. If you devote the necessary time and effort, you can earn your degree. I will admit that occasionally not enough input is given after assignments have been assessed for complete credit.
