Junior: I came into Rice as a transfer student this past semester. I'm happy to say I've found a place where I feel completely welcomed and appreciated. This is where I was meant to be. I am academically challenged and my curiosity is constantly mirrored in my classmates/friends. The conversations are fun and the people are genuine. Don't think that you can't apply because of how competitive it looks. They really practice the holistic approach and if you bring your unique story, passion, and perspective you have a shot. Senior: TCU has an incredibly inclusive and supportive community. The professors genuinely care about their students and want their students to succeed. Many have their PhD, with years of real-world industry experience. They are great resources as mentors both in an outside the classroom. The school spirit of TCU is unlike any other school. Students are incredibly proud to be horned frogs and hold lots of school pride. This year, students have been calling TCU an "everything school" because of our success in academics and across all sports. TCU has a great campus, with state-of-the-art buildings and facilities. The dorms are well-equipped and updated, and the recreation center is a great facility. The dining hall food in the BLUU isn't great, but there's plenty of dining options on campus (a healthy smoothie bar, chick-fil-a, Peet's, flatbreads, etc.) and others on University Avenue. Junior: The school is very diverse and has lots of great resources they provide for their students. It’s massive and they’re always constantly building something new. The only downfall would be the prices of the apartments on campus but living in a city as big as houston you’re able to comfortably live off campus and commute to school. The dining halls have great food, we also have a larger cafeteria and student centers all around campus. Depending on what program you are attending on the campus they all have their own special perks. I attend the Bauer College of Business and the classrooms are not old by any means, everything feels new, and the bathrooms are always clean. We have a large recreation center with lots of different machines to use if you’re into fitness. Also if you like to study outdoors rather than indoors, we have so many shaded areas around trees and even a small fountain nearby the Cullen building. Most students love to do their studying there! Alum: I have only the best memories as a student at the University of Houston Clearlake (UHCL). I started at the UHCL with zest and enthusiasm for learning. My program counselors were so amazing in how they saw me as a student that was ready to take on a Master’s Program. They provided me with all of the guidance and support to be successful. I can’t say enough of my professors. I was just so fortunate to be at the right place with the best professors. I felt motivated, inspired, respected, and with so much support. I recall one stressful night when I separated from my husband. He left me without a vehicle alone with my four year old. I had no will to study for the next day’s test. Sophomore: Despite the fact that Texas State University is home to 37,864 students, according to the 2021-2022 academic school year, one still finds themselves feeling at "home." The town of San Marcos Texas radiates Bobcat pride and energy anywhere you find yourself going, whether it be to the local canes and seeing the walls filled with Boko the bobcat posters, or seeing any car in front of you on I-35 with a Texas State bumper sticker. Although I found myself not only living but as well as working a full time job in San Antonio, a mere hour drive from San Marcos (not including the traffic) I still felt a sense of loyalty for Texas State, even if it meant dealing with an hour long drive and the traffic that results from it. The only changes I would make to not only Texas State University, but as well as the city of San Marcos, would be the traffic jams as a result to limited parking and local train tracks that run through out the city.... Senior: Our Lady of the Lake University is a beautiful campus with amazing school programs and clubs. I get to attend school in a castle! The only issues would be that some of the buildings are rundown and unusable until they are fixed and the money has been put towards making the campus look pretty rather than fortifying the foundations of some of the buildings. Once those buildings are fixed up, there will be more space for classrooms and activities than there currently is. People are complaining about lack of space when really, just fix up the messed up buildings and you have all the space you want. Other than that, OLLU is a hidden gem that needs more attention.... Freshman: Since I just graduated High School, Saint Edward’s was one of my first college choices to choose from! I have a cousin who went there and he was the captain for the cheer team for I believe to be 2 years and he just loved his experience there. He took me on my first tour for the university and I loved how the campus is surrounded by so much nature and space. I love being able to go outside and breathe whenever I feel cluttered with too much stress or work. That is why I chose to commit to St. Edward’s! Alum: Sam Houston State University is a very warm environment with professors who really care about providing an excellent educational experience. I especially appreciated how quickly my professors responded to my emails, and there was never a moment where I felt that I was taking this college journey alone. There are also various student organizations that not only help students get connected with others on campus, but there are also lots of volunteer opportunities to help students get involved with the community of Huntsville.
