Freshman: So far, I have had a few problems with the university. I understand the goals of the institution and the objectives that the university strives to achieve. The diverse climate in the school is one of my favorite things about the school! The multiple backgrounds of students across campus and the specific groups have allowed me to witness and work alongside different people and similar people as myself. It has made me feel much more welcome and accepted. The only issue I hope to see improvement on within the next couple of years is the school's informational side. When searching online, I am hunting for information and having to call to find out things that I should easily be able to locate. These can include courses, financial aid, and teachers' profiles. If there was an easier system to figure out this information or to be able to view all of the information in one location, the process of application and viewing my situation would be much simpler and easier to perceive.... Senior: I was quite nervous coming here as a non-traditional student. In fact, I had been to 3 other Universities prior to ENMU. I can honestly say that ENMU has far exceeded my expectations. As a STEM major, I was happy to find that the classes were on the small size. This was great because many of my professors made the effort to know their students name. Sophomore: I really enjoy how small the classes are, and how the professors can interact with you better. The education at New Mexico State University is challenging but enough that you can achieve the challenge. The organizations that are on campus are super diverse and make you feel welcomed and like you belong. The Orientation they provide you in the very beginning is helpful especially for incoming students it gives them a better overview of what to expect. The students are nice and easy to get along with. Sophomore: Central New Mexico College is a great institution! They offer a wide range of degrees to choose from and have a great selection of professors! The staff at CNM is amazing and they offer any kind of help you need whether that be with counseling, books, tuition, etc. My experience at CNM has been nothing but amazing! The courses I’ve taken all had amazing instructors and Brightspace is such an easy platform to work with. Majority of my school work has been on Brightspace and it’s has been a breeze to navigate through. I enjoyed the community at CNM, everyone is very friendly and positive. My favorite thing about CNM is the libraries they have at almost every campus! I go there to study, read and get away. CNM is already improving so much every semester but one thing I would like to see is possible a CNM Gym! I believe a gym would be very convenient for all CNM students and staff! Junior: Personally I love higher education, now does that mean that higher education is not a ruse and is more in line with as very expensive day care for young adults, I sure think that most institutes and colleges actually make employees rather than free thinkers, but hey that's another topic. New Mexico Tech among others might be an exception, I am currently studying to become a chemical engineer, regular bachelors, nothing crazy, I will leave here working for Sandia National laboratories making $118,000 annually starting pay. This is pretty astonishing when you consider this is starting and with only a bachelors. They really care at NMT (New Mexico Tech) they have some of the greatest minds, teachers that care, genuinely care, I believe the teacher to student ratio is 1 to 9, that's pretty good. Freshman: Attending Western New Mexico University overall has been a wonderful experience. However, if there had to be any changes, I would like to see more staff for the more complex courses. Having the option to choose an instructor for courses can be very beneficial for students especially since we all have different learning styles. Having a diverse group of instructors to choose from would benefit students immensely because it would allow us to choose an instructor whose material and teaching style/pace will be attainable to students who may struggle in these more difficult courses. Graduate Student: My undergraduate program at New Mexico Highlands University was a fantastic experience. I transferred from San Juan College when I graduated with my Associate's Degree. I went through the Social Work Program, attending through the Farmington, NM branch. The academic experience was not strenuous but challenged me to be involved with the school and the community. The internships I had throughout my program have been helpful and provided insight as to what I wanted to do for my career in Social Work. My internships taught me skills I need to refine and what I need to learn more about, like specific approaches and interpersonal skills. The program taught me a sense of accountability for my education and my drive to be in Social Work. It was daunting in certain areas, like making connections and advocating for myself. Alum: Clovis Community College is a great place to get educational goals, started, sparked and achieved. They provide a wide variety of majors and certificates, as well as degree for transfer programs. Counseling is available in person and online, also by appointment. They will help students to create a unique and specific plan to reach their goals. Sophomore: It feels like home; I grew up around Gallup, New Mexico with full of childhood memories to teenage dreams of going off to college to become a full-time nurse student. I'm proud to come back here and finish my associates degree of nursing this year! Back in 2017 or 2018, I arrived here, and I felt like I was back in high school being comfortable with the teachers and students. It's a nice and small university, but full of positive energy. I would recommend the campus not to change in any way because being around with the right students and asking one of the professors for help is enough than changing the university. Although, it has been an amazing journey and hopefully continue to always be this way when I graduate.
